It's been almost 9 weeks since surgery and ankle is getting worse

Hello,

I had several things done during my surgery almost 9 weeks ago (lengthening of the tendon, reconstruction of the post tibial tendon, arthrodesis subtalar adjustment, arthrotomy with synovectom adjustment and somethng else i can't decipher from the statement :-) My doctor told me I could start putting minimal weight on my foot while in a boot and using crutches 10 days ago. I realize that I will have more pain and swelling now that I am trying to use my foot but it has become unbearable and I am barely able to put any pressure on it at all. It also hasn't helped that I returned to work this week and went right back to full time without resting. Has anyone else had this procedure done and if so what more can I do to relieve the pain? My doctor keeps telling me that Tylenol will help but I am not getting much relief. I have tried ice water soaks and using ice packs. Any suggestions? I normally have a high pain tolerance but this is beginning to get to me and affecting everything I do including trying to sleep.

I had exactly the same Sept last year. Are you sure it's foot pain or neuropathy pain. I never had any actual pain it was all nerve endings pain. I elevated my leg and still did ice behind my knee or on your foot if it does not bother you. I see my Dr tomorrow which I will b fitted for orthotics . But still have nerve discomfort which could last for a year.

The heel bone is causing pain but the rest of it could be neuropathy. The incisions are healed up but those are causing me a lot of pain from wearing the boot. I have been dealing with this issue since June of last year and have tried physical therapy and cortisone so surgery was the only option. I haven't tried ice behind my knee so I will give that a shot. Thanks!

Like someone suggested ice behind the knee might work. I had my leg in the boot 3 months. All kinds of nerve pain some feel like electric shock. All those muscles, nerves & tendons waking up. It's a long process - I'm 5 months post op. But it'll get better. Tylenol never helped me, still have to take Norco 1 or 2 times a day. Ugh.

I can't believe you're back to work full time. May be too soon.
