I just wanted to say that I am now officially a member of your club!
Had total right hip replacement Oct. 11 , anterior approach. So far I've been doing very well. Even though I know I will have my good days and bad days, I will keep reminding myself that I will continually get better. I am SO happy I had this done as I could see myself in a wheelchair down the road if I had not.
Despite the pain and struggles that go along with recovery, it is not nearly as bad as how I felt before. I am looking forward to being ME again and not in chronic pain and feeling depressed.
I've been reading posts this morning from some saying they still feel "wooden" and still can't bend to tie shoes, etc. That is disheartening and one of the things I worried about pre-op, thinking what if I go through all this and still no big improvement afterward, but in the end I had no choice. If I had not done it, it would only get worse.
I'm looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you lovely people, comparing notes, etc. and wish the best for those of you who are struggling.
Hello Betty, welcome to the club. I am about 3 weeks ahead of you (TRHR) and have just been for another walk, with crutches, in the Autumn leaves. Before the operation I would have been in too much pain to enjoy my favourite season. I am being very sensible, resting when I need to, eating so much healthy food I am glowing, doing my physio regularly (a bit more each day) and staying positive and happy about this long overdue operation. I am so glad I had it done, I can appreciate and look forward to a pain free life after the next few months.
Good luck with your recovery, don't push yourself or expect too much too soon
Nice to hear from you. Your walk in the autumn leaves sounds delightful as this has always been my favorite season as well!!
I'd love to know what your daily diet is like to keep you glowing
I will also have to keep reminding myself to take it easy & slowly as I've always been one that is always in a hurry to do and get things done!
Right now I'm dealing with a severe nose bleed which I was NOT expecting! It's very dry here where I live which causes my nose bleeds, however it must be the blood thinner to make it bleed so badly.
Gotta go deal with this now, but look forward to talking with you again,
Yes you will be glad you had the surgery. I am almost twenty weeks out and doing well. I still ice everyday after exercise or a long walk. Today I played tennis for an hour and then we went for a long walk in Newport Harbor, about 4 miles. I am back to yoga, weight training, and swimming. My physician has encouraged me to continue w spin class also. The only set back I have had were when I just went back to playing tennis. My back went out, I think it had to do with being off running for so long. The PT told me that I was probably favoring my right weaker side for so long that the muscles were weaker over there. And this after a full 6 weeks of PT and daily Home exercises to equalize everything. Good news is back is fine after two weeks of rest and massage. I do notice that I get real stiff if I sit for too long, so lots of getting up and strolling around the house or garden. I feel like I have my life back, I am having so much fun playing tennis with my friends again with NO HIP PAIN AT ALL. Hang in there, go slow and let your hip heal correctly'!!
Stacey, that is just amazing you are playing tennis again at 20 weeks out, not to mention all your other physical activities! That is SO encouraging to hear!
