I think I've become a vampire. I wish I could get some decent sleep during the night but seems I'm up every hour on the house with make a short cat nap in between. It is now nearly 3am, I've been up and about since 2am. I will definately has to speak with my GP about this. I would hate to start taking some type of sleep aid but this is not good for my recovery I think.
Hi Susan l think the sleep pattern is the worst thing to get used to. Before my op I used to sleep 6/7 hours solid but now go to bed at 9 awake at 12 then again at 3am and up at 6 and I am 9weeks post op! Was looking forward to sleeping on my side but because of getting used to sleeping on my back I cant seem to sleep on my side for more than half hour but it will get better I am told .
The sleep pattern you mention is exactly what I'm going through and like you I'm not a back sleeper so I cant wait till the day comes and I can sleep or just lay on my side.
Hi Susan, it will get better sleep is the worst part of the process I reckon.Just make sure you don't buy lots of random stuff on the shopping
channels through the night!!!
Imagine having a partner who can hear bats fart. I'm super stealth when I wake up and she comes to see if I'm alright. I cat nap during the day, so two hour naps in the day equal a shorter night rest. Find out more about how wounds heal or the process that takes place for bone to form around the implant. That can also send you off to sleep.
LOL yes, I've actually been watching those as well as all the crazy tv shows that seems to be on in the middle of the night.
Hello Susan. I know how you feel but last night I slept from 10.30 till 1.30 did the pp and then slept till 6.30. I am on day 18 today. Hang on in there

Phew I'm not the only one then! It's awful isn't it. Do you find yourself nodding off about now if you're watching tv and relaxed? Going around in circles. Make a drink watch some tv nod off. Again an again and again then need bathroom because drinking too much I've tried the horlicks hot chocolate herbal teas....nothing helps! My doctor just tells me to take sleeping pills. I don't want to wake up for the bathroom and be all wobbly on my feet because of sleeping pills bad enough trying not to z
I took a two hour nap this afternoon, so I either stay up a couple hours more, or wake up at 0400. Yeah netflix!
I'm beginning to dread night time. I'm still sleeping on the couch too which isn't good I guess but because I'm up and down all night it's easier than using the stairs.
Sleeping was one of the things I was dreading and indeed it has been one of the worst parts of it all. I'm 6 weeks post op today and have spent pretty much the last 4 weeks sleeping in an electric recliner which has been my saviour. I'm hoping at my consultant check up on Friday he will say I can resume sleeping on my side and I fear if he does, I might not emerge from the bedroom for a week!
I just look upon it as a chance to chat more with the other lovely people on here who are also awake during the wee hours ![]()
Like you I have yet to sleep in my bed The electric recliner has, been my bed for going on 4 weeks now. Last night I went into my bed for about an hour but then I get this antsy feeling in my legs and I have to get up and walk or out. Oh well essay soon I hope I can do a full night. I go back to the GP in a couple of weeks, see what he recommends.
I spoke to my surgeon about sleeping downstairs and he said I'm a naughty girl. Haha haven't been called that for a long time. Everyday I say I'm going upstairs but I get too comfy watching tv and don't want to move
This is the third time for me and decided to stay downstairs. Spend more time with family on normal be in the dining room.
It's amazing how many of us sleep downstairs, in recliners and suchlike. My district nurse told me it was bad to sleep in my recliner as I should be flat in bed. It's easy to say that but I've also had back surgery and knew it was going to be difficult for me sleeping on my back for more than an hour or two. It kills my back and ended up sleeping pretty much sitting up even when I did go to bed! I spoke to people at work who had this surgery and sleeping in a recliner seemed commonplace so I thought nothing of it until my district nurse ticked me off, saying laying flat helped the swelling etc. I have had bother with swollen ankles/feet etc so maybe she had a point but I had swollen ankles and feet before the surgery so who knows?
All I know is that my body has dictated to me what it needed and 4 or 5 hours sleep in a straight run is better than 1 or 2 in bed in my book!
