I've been blacking out from alcohol

Hi there,

I'm a 29 y/o female who drinks on weekends with friends. I've struggled with blackouts (typically the last hour of the night). I'm working on changing my drinking habits but I want to know how likely it is that my Saturday night binge drinking has caused permanent brain damage.

Is this more of a concern when you're drinking to excess daily? There is so much information online I find it overwhelming, and don't know where I fit in to the mix. Feeling very anxious and stressed!

Blacking out from drinking, is usually caused by people who don't drink daily, but then on a Friday/Saturday night go overboard. The amount of alcohol in a relatively short space of time, overloads the body and it can't cope with it. So it temporarily shuts down. It is common amongst students.

Brain damage is more likely to happen to people who drink daily, over a long period. Even then, you can ward off most of the problems by eating well every day. The ones that suffer badly, are those that drink and do not eat, or eat only one small meal per day. The brain needs to have certain vitamins and without these, brain damage can set in.

Rhgb is right. Probably not permanent brain damage. Good plan to drink less 😁

I don’t drink often and when I do I binge drink and black out . I then suffer with bad anxiety and low mood for a couple of weeks after .  I wish I could drink to know my limit
