I've been bruising a lot without hurting myself

I don't know if anyone has a similar situation. I just changed to Methotrexate injection 25mg and i just break out in small patches of rashes which later turns to a bad bruise leaving a dark patch on my skin. It's seems to be more frequent now and the bruises hurt a lot.

I don't want to report it for the fear that my doze will be reduced hence back in pain. I once had a reduction to 15mg and the pain became very unbearable so don't want to report it to the doctor.

I'll like to know if anyone has a similar situation and how they have dealt with the bruises.

I woke one morning a few weeks ago, with a massive bruise.  I didn't take my next dose until I had spoken to my Dermatologist and also had my bloods checked.  I am aware that MTX can trigger Leukaemia and one of the signs of Leukaemia, is unexplained bruising.

I missed 3 doses before I was able to start it again because my bloods were ok

I think you should talk to your prescriber sooner rather than later.

Hope all is ok

I'm wondering whether it's the actual injecting that's the problem. I get rashes but I generally mention it to the doctor because it flags up a problem...in my case it seems to be liver-related. In your case you must mention it. Methotrexate isn't the only drug that you can take - it doesn't suit everyone. Doctors must listen to the patient so don't worry that he/she will withold the drug. You can also ring the Consultant's nurse. They are always very helpful and will make an appointment for you to see the consultant if they feel it's necessary. Please don't put up with these bruises.

Thanks Ever Hopeful, I didn't have a lot of the bruises when i was on the tablets but I was told my body wasn't getting enough from the tablets as I was always in pain hence the switch to injection. I wasn't aware there were other alternatives, i'll mention it, thanks.

Thanks Mrsop, I have my blooded tested every two months and there's been no report of anything wrong. I'll mention it as the bruises are leaving dark scares on my body and becoming quite embarrasing too
