Hello eveyone. I’m new to this forum but I’ve been struggling with this off sensation of a tight throat. I went to the doctor and they diagnosed me with GERD and esophagitis, but I’m struggling to understand if my throat tightness is physical or mental. I tend to over think and worry a lot about these things. I’ve had this throat tightness feeling for about 6 months now and it won’t go away. I don’t know if it’s due to stress/anxiety or from the acid reflux. How can I fix this.
Hi Jake
I have a Haital hernia and oesophageal problems one of which was tightness. I believe it is from the acid reflux or the hernia. I have had my oesophagus stretched, a simple procedure, it did help initially but may need to have it done more than once. Worth speaking to your doctor if it gets too uncomfortable.
It's difficult because both GERD and Anxiety cause throat tightness (and anxiety has this wonderful effect where if you worry about something, it can make it happen - thanks brain!). If you haven't got any other physical symptoms of anxiety (such as nausea, shaking, rapid heartbeat, hyperventilating) it might be the Reflux causing it. Antacids might help?
I thought this throat tightness was GERD at first. Then I started to get breathing problems and the feeling that I couldn’t take in enough air and I was always yawning. I started to think it was anxiety related because I have none of the symptoms of acid reflux. Although I do get the burning feeling in my throat.
