I’ve been taking Mebeverine for 2 weeks and am still getting diarrhoea and cramp.

im on the fodmap diet and have eliminated all the problem causing foods but am still feeling ill. ive had blood tests etc and nothing irregualr has come up. if anyone has experienced similar issues please let me know what you did. its really getting me down

Mebeverine is not a good drug; it causes stomach upset. Ask your doctor for something else. Mebeverine disagreed with me so I switched to Buscopan and I felt so much better.

the FODMAP diet is not a cure all. it’s not meant to stop diarrhoea either. You need to follow the elimination stage for a good 6 weeks.
mebeverane might not suit you. You can try buscopan, peppermint, painkillers. a hot water bottle or wheat bag works well too

Have you had a colonoscopy or any scans?

the cramps have only started since ive taken mebeverine. i tried buscopan vefore but i only really get the diarrhoea side of ibs so the buscopan didnt do anything. i took quite a few imodum on a daily basis which messed up my toilet pattern. im at a loss with what to do

no, is that something i should request or something the doctor would reccommend ?

Buscopan is an antispasmodic for pain; it will not stop diarrhoea. Imodium is your best option. Even if it messes up your toilet pattern, try to get used to different toilet habits. This is what you have to do with IBS.

If you are having chronic diarrhoea and cramps, I would ask to see a coloproctologist to discuss the symptoms and possible causes. It maybe that it is IBS, but it could be something else that you need to get examined for. If it is IBS, the only tablet that works for me is alverine. It helps with both trapped wind and diarrhoea.
