I’ve had stomach issues all my life!

I’ve had stomach issues all my life, and just two years ago I was diagnosed with IBS and spastic colon syndrome. It’s been the hardest and roughest experience I have been through. And I also have really bad anxiety and because of it I get extreme cramps. There is not a day that goes by that im not sick or don’t feel good. I feel so alone all the time because no one gets me or understands, people think I’m just being dramatic, does anyone feel the same?

Hi, I can sympathize very much with your experience, people who do not have IBS think it's just a vague ache like they get when they eat too much. I have to restrict my diet to a large extent to lessen the problems a little but every month or so it just throws a wobbly again. Obviously it makes us anxious because we are in pain and it is hard to live with pain, but it is a vicious circle because anxiety can make it worse. Sleep can seem a luxury at times too. Best wishes Claire

I had an IBS flare up last year when I was on holiday, in my flat in Italy.  It was brought on by stress because my Italian neighbour was bossing me and I had a huge attack of diarrhoea which lasted three days.  In the end, I had to get Imodium.  My stomach remained sensitive and unsettled for a week.  My dad did not understand that stress can upset my bowel like that and thought I was being too sensitive.   I have had a fair amount of bossiness from him too.
