Think i have jock itch /fungal infection on my buttocks.Tried quite a few creams - wont go away.Severe itch at night
I suffered from Jock Itch a few years ago. Pharmacist recommended Lamisil (Terbinafine) cream, which I found to be completely useless. Even after several months of twice-daily applications, I saw no improvement. And it’s expensive stuff, too!
I consulted my GP, who gave me a prescription for Clotrimazole cream, which I later discovered is available over-the-counter without a prescription. I saw an immediate improvement within a couple of days, and it totally wiped out the infection within two weeks, but I continued to use the cream for a few weeks afterwards, just to be certain it had gone. I applied plenty of cream all over and around the affected area, at least twice a day (sometimes three times if I had an opportunity), so I got through a lot of the cream, but it was worth it, and it’s nowhere near as expensive as Lamisil.
I then started using talcum powder for a few days in an effort to keep the area dry, which turned out to be a mistake as it dried my skin out too much and made it very sore. I now use nothing at all, and I’m symptom-free.
This was several years ago, and the infection has not returned yet - hopefully it never will!
I also washed all my underwear at 60 degrees C for a while to make sure any lingering fungus was dead. OK, it ruined my clothes, but I’d rather that that suffer another bout of Jock Itch!
So for me it was Clotrimazole that saved the day. It’s often marketted purely as a Thrush remedy, but it’s all the same stuff - as long as it’s Clotrimazole 1% w/w it’ll do the job. The cheapest supplier I found in the UK at the time was Morrison’s Pharmacy (I bought quite a lot of it!).
