Hi All,

Yes, I went and very useful it was too. We were a small group, both knee and hip patients and some spouses. The school was taken by a physiotherapist who went through in detail what to expect after the op. Also gave us a few excercices to do preop to build muscles up. A mine of information re equipment to help afterwards at home, also had asked us to take measurements of leg,, bed, and chair height so they could be raised if required. Helped to dispel several concerns
I went to joint school a few days before my op and found it very worthwhile. There were a number of speakers - a ward sister, a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist all of whom gave us very useful and practical information. My wife went with me and she found it just as useful. It certainly helped us!
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the reply. It just seems strange that I have not date yet.
Thanks for the reply Maggie.
it is really useful you meet the physiotherapists and can ask questions - I thought they were going to teach how to roll a spliff properly but........
Yes I went with my daughter and it was well worth going. They measured me for sticks and gave me some equipment. I met physio, senior ward nurse and beleive it or not the pantry manager who was in charge of catering. It was great and really put my mind at rest. Go and learn!!!
Hi Richard
As everyone else has said Hip School (thats what my hospital called it) is very important and worthwhile. strange how different hospitals work as I had already got a date for my op when i went but no matter what it will help you prepare for when you get the date for your op.
The more you can prepare the better including all the aids to help you:-
The raised toilet seat
Pair of crutches
Grabber - Get at least two to make your life easier and are invaluable.
each authority seems to differ in what they provide but when in doubt ask!
Start to do some exercises if you can (ask the Physio for advice) it all helps post op.
Very importantly you have joined this group and will get so much advice, help and at times a good laugh when you need it. Once you have a date for your op you can get more advice as you need it.
Best of luck
Linnet x (14 weeks post op)
Thanks Linnet
