Can a heart attack go undiagnosed? Like, what if I had one and an EKG didn't puck it up? Like, what if it was a silent heart attack? A lot of those go undiagnosed until the person has more of those and they end up dying.
Maybe that's the reason I'm always so short of breathe...
I read online about silent heart attacks and the people who have them have no symptoms at all besides shortness of breathe.
Maybe the hospital isn't doing blood work for it because I'm young and "21 year Olds don't have heart attacks" which is also bull to me because they CAN. it's highly unlikely but it's possible.
So how can I ease my mind about the fact that I'm always short of breathe and it's actually because of anxiety and nothing else?
Hi, to put your mind at rest, it's highly unlikely that an ECG would not pick anything up. I don't want to sound condesending, but have you been checked for asthma? A mild form can make you breathless, so it wouldn't hurt to get it checked out.
No, I haven't. I'm 21 so if I had asthma I would know by now. I'm just always short of breathe and it's seriously unbelievable fir it to just be because if anxiety.
If it really makes you feel better ask for the heart monitor to stay on you for a few days. It is called a holter or event monitor. It will let the doctors see your heart activity in a long term basis. There are more to heart attacks than just breathing problems. By you researching "shortness of breath" you're going to get 100's of diagnoses that are going to freak you out and make this whole thing 10x worse. EKG are usually never wrong, especially if you have it on you for a few days like the EKG monitor you can keep on you for a few days. It would surely pick up if you were having a "heart attack" technology is very high tech these days. You are fine, but if it makes you feel better ask for the holter/event monitor
Also I am 21, as well. And anxiety always causes breathing problems for me. It's not unbelievable, you're just new to this. Anxiety comes at all different ages.
Well, explain the jaw pain, the headache, the shortness of breathe without having bad anxiety or a panic attack? I've been having constant jaw pain and headaches. The breathlessness just suddenly happened today.
Anxiety causes headaches quite often. Jaw pain, well idk. Maybe you're sleeping wrong, jaw pain causes headaches too. If you were going to have a stroke or heart attack it would have happened by now since you've been talking about this for a few days now. Like I said go get the holter/event monitor if you're really worried about it. I'm sure you're fine. Anxiety causes a lot of weird symptoms that even doctors can't explain how or why.
Do you have a family history of heart problems? Have u had palpitations? Do you take drugs?
No family history of heart problems. At least none that I know of. Palpitations, yes. No to drigs.
Palpitations are part of anxiety too. I get those all the time when I get panic attacks or random anxiety. That's what used to worry me
I actually don't get many palpitations anymore. I used to get them A LOT before. It felt like it skipped a beat or something. Now I don't get them as much.
That's good! Yeah I used to get them quite often. They feel exactly like a skipped heart beat or just an off rhythm heart. My doctor said even the healthiest of hearts get them and it's completely normal
Yeah, I freaked out all the time before because of them. Now I'm freaking out because of the uncomfortable feelin b I have in my jaw. That's what's freaking me out now thinking it's probably a sign that I either have, am having, or will have a heart attack. I'm used to the shortness of breathe. It happens all the time for no apparent reason, according to the doctors.
You could have TMJ. I got that once it's very painful, I got it for no reason and it lasted a week. I couldn't even eat or open my mouth. You could also grind your teeth at night causing jaw pain. Maybe you have malocclusion? You could always see a dentist for that problem
Palpitations are common with anxiety. With no family history, no drug misuse at 21 the chances of a heart attack are extremely slim, stop stressing out, u will be just fine! X
