Hello, sorry for my English that is not good! I begin to take Selincro yesterday night, and I coudn t sleep all night long was terrible and I also feel bad, a sweat a lot, stomach paint...! Tonight I took my 2 pils, but I am afraid, as I have a child of 20 months very very active, today was really hard to take care of him, I think if I will have another night without sleep, I don't know if I can handle him tomorrow! Someone have the same problem of insomnia? And how many days I will feel this bad effect?? Sorry again fort English, and thanks if someone will unswer
Hi, When I first took Selincro I didnt sleep properly for two weeks and felt awful. The side effects wore off after that and I now sleep better then ever and feel very well, especially as I drink much less. If you can get through that period its so worth it. I understand it must be very hard if you have a young child to look after though. Do you have anyone who you can explain it all to and could help you with some child care ?
The symptoms do get better and I had the same insomnia and feeling spaced out. It will be worth it but only take one before a drink. Stick with it it does work
Thanks for yours answers boo and Linda! boo 2 weeks?? Thant really scarry me with a little child I can not feel so bad for 2 weeks:-( ! and linda for you was the same?? about 2 weekes, or you feel better before?
I did not tAke a tablet or drink every day do I cannot say but I think less than 14 tablets for me. I think it improved slightly after each time. I hope this helps?
Thanks Linda, sorry but my doctor wasnt so clear, si if I am sure to not drink I do not have to take the tablet right?? I tought I have to takes 1 pills every day for one months, and after only before drink...Could you please help me to clarify???
You MUST persist Laila. The side effects can be horrible at first but they DO subside over the first week (if you take a tablet daily) or after about 7 tablets.
The rewards are worth the pain and you will be far happier and healthier if you can just get through this difficult part.
I am a little unsure why you are taking two pills. The pills are 18mg and the dose is supposed to be ONE pill 1.5 to 2 hours before drinking. There is no benefit to taking two, two don't work any better than one.
Not for 1 month, Every time you drink, for the rest of your life. If you stopped taking the pills, you would undo any good the pills have done.
If you don't drink, don't take a pill.
Hi Paul, thanks a lot for your answer! As I said my English is not good, but I was saying take 2 pills....but not the same day,1 yesterday and one today... But after your message I quite want to cry , as today I didn't drink, but I took the tablet (so I will feel the bad effect and no sleep again for nothing)! I believe my doctor didn't know well this drug and told me to take it every day even if I'm not drinking .... But so cool that you help me, so now I have the idea more clear and know how to take the pills! Thanks againg (if I didn't read you I was taking 14pils even if I was drinking only 7 days)thanks again Paul
No, it is not so bad if you took a pill and didn't drink, it is one more day closer to getting rid of the side effects The real problem is if you drink without taking a pill
It is a shame that doctors don't understand this treatment at all but it is really amazing treatment and it works for most people!
Hi again Pual, as I don't sleep I just still have a question ... I also take Xanax and Paroxotin(40 mg) , (now I just took I pils for sleep)do you know if this medicaments are ok with Selincro?? Tomorrow I will defletly find a new doctor, I don't trust her anymore, and she told me 0 bad effect, and you can take the pils at any time (so she even not know to thake some hours before drinking) so thanks again and you will know for my question with the other medicent please let me know, as I feel bad, can't sleep, and tomorrow I don't know how I can look aftery child! Thanks againg for your precious help
I'm not sure about the med but I have had trouble sleeping since I quit drnking, its been almost 4 months ( with one slip) I sleep better now but in the begining it was awful, not sleeping like I shuld be able to but it is better.
Hang in there it will get better.
Paul what would happen if you drank without taking a tablet?
Belinda I think if you drink without tablet you feel like before, so you want to drink more and more as usual....but I let answer Paul, thant I am sure he will get a perfect answer
Laila is correct. The point of taking the Nalmefene is to block the receptors so that they don't get that additional reward from alcohol. If you drink without it, the receptors are not blocked and you would be doing the same as before. If you had been taking Nalmefene for some time and you were drinking a lot less (which is normally the case), you would very quickly find your drinking increasing again.
The moderators will need to approve the link I am going to send in my next message but it links to a page which gives all the known interactions between Nalmefene and other drugs. There appear to be none with the drugs you have mentioned that you are taking yourself, but check the list.

Thanks Paul😃I will wait the list and check!
it's brilliant! and I can't believe there is finally a way to slow you down so you dont drink as much and not have to drink as often as the cravings go. I need to treat myself to some workout gear as the next project is the weightloss. Any tips Paul ??
I am afraid that fitness and weightloss are not areas of expertise for me. However, there are ideas floating around that Nalmefene may work on compulsive eaters and gamblers, so you may find it easier than you imagine to avoid food addiction replacing the alcohol
The other thing I should remind you of is that Nalmefene also blocks the endorphins produced by exercise so it may be an idea to exercise on your non-drinking days when you don't take a pill if you want to get the good feeling from working out.
