I've just been diagnosed with IBS and I am thinking of having a colonic irrigation.Has anyone done this, was it worthwhile and how do I find a reputable place to have it done?:?
Hello.
I was just curious as I had to practically self-diagnose my IBS. It seems Doctors are dropping the ball on that one personally.
Anyway I wanted to ask did your doctor diagnose you? and anything else you feel you can tell me, just for advice more than anything else.
To be honest I do not know squat about colonic irrigation. Is it supposed to be helpful with IBS?
Thanks
Hi guest 12,
Thanks for replying to my query, sorry I didn't get back sooner, couldn't log on. I also self diagnosed, thought it best to go to docs though. After numerous test diagnosed with dysfunctional gall bladder.Had it removed.Been back to the docs, now they say I have IBS.Offered me laxatives or diarhoea pills but not much else. After a bit of research can see why its hard to treat.Everybodies IBS is different, there isn't a cure and if you went through the nhs it would take ages to find out your triggers. But there is hope, its up to us to try to sort it out.My first step is an alternative doc.If that doesn't work I plan to go to a nutritionist. Will let you know the outcome. Advice would be ;cut down on the following, crisps, pies, cake, chocolate, bread, alcohol, ready meals(sounds depressing doesn't it).Eat smaller portions. When shopping look for products with less than 3g saturated fats.Google IBS but be careful I'd read that oats were good for IBS which they can be but they had a bad effect on me(I find bran flakes work better for me)Above all try to seek help because its really hard to do on your own. Good Luck!Hope you find this useful.
Hello.
Thank you for your enlightening response, very interesting.
Just to reassure you, I have been to the doctor. The same one I see regularly as she appears to be one of the best at my local surgery.
I did however have to tell her I think I have IBS as she appeared to not really have thought of that.
Anyway a few months down the line and I have not really seen any change. I tried Movicol as a laxative and Colpermin (peppermint oil tablets). Those were not effective at all....
I totally agree with you about everyone having different symptoms to the next person. That really does seem to be the case.
I have also tried a food diary, nothing really shows up as being a culprit..
Could I ask what a dysfunctional gall bladder is? I don't even know what a gall bladder does!!
Thanks
