Pain at side of right knee so GP sent me for X-ray. I've got osteoarthritis in both knees! Right knee is painful but left knee is seemingly worse but I've no pain in it! I'm now experiencing pain behind my right knee as well as on side of my knee. Does anyone else get pain behind knee. I'm worried I've a tumour or blood clot!

It is quite common for the amount of pain against damage shown on X-Ray to be incomparable. Some people show minimal damage and are in agony whereas others show significant damage and feel no pain at all.
I have osteoarthritis in both knees and the pain can radiate all around the knee (sadly, I am virtually wheelchair bound as a result) but if you do have concerns you may have a blood clot, mention it to your Doctor ... I am sure the doctor will be able to put your mind at rest.

Hi Bex thanks for your reply. I know I should go back to gp for my peace of mind but I hate going back and forward about things! I'll give it the weekend and go next week if still the same. Poor you at least I can still walk with difficulty at times and this has happened so suddenly!!

Anne - if you're in a wheelchair because of the pain surely they should be offering this? How bad does it have to get!
I am seeing a new doctor in a new practice this tuesday, am determined not to be fobbed off with physio and I can't take painkillers as I won't be able to drive (which is partly how I earn my living), so following various advice I have been given I am going to insist on an xray. Will let you know how I get on!!
Hi Jan I'm not in a wheel chair it is Bex a lady who replied to my comment!! I went to my gp about a month ago complaining of a sore knee and I was sent for an xray straight away. The report came back saying I'd osteoarthritis in both knees! My question here was to see if anyone had pain behind their knee as that's what's worrying me!! Good luck with your xray that will show if it's arthritis you have. I was surprised I had it in 2 knees as only one is really sore

Pain in the back of the knee is often times associated with a Bakers Cyst. This is a secondary issue with osteoarthritis. I've suffered through this with both of my knees. It occurs when the knee is swollen, and some of that fluid forms behind the knee. Only thing to do is get the swelling down. Eventually it goes away, but it can and will come back.
Thanks Robert......I don't have any swelling at front or behind my knee just pain when I walk so not too sure about a Bakers Cyst but I've decided I'll make appt to see my GP at the end of the week just to get it checked out. Not easy this getting old business

Just a quick update - after four long and painful years I changed doctors after getting nowhere with my hip problem and wow! what a difference! Saw a lovely young doctor who said the first thing was to get me up to the hospital for an xray (no offer of that before), she wrote me out a card to take with me, it's a walk-in clinic and I must have just got lucky because within and hour and a half I'd had the xray and was back home again! I'm amazed.
Got next appointment 5th Jan to assess results, so very hopeful now to at least ruling arthritis in or out and see where we go from there.
To all you guys out there - if you're not satisfied, change doctors!
Hi Jan pleased for you that you've had success with a new GP. Glad you got an xray. I was lucky I was sent for one the first time I complained about my knee.. Your results should be in before 5 Jan so you may be able to find out before then.
