Just diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome

Hi - I was diagnosed with sjogrens 2 days ago after numerous years with aches/pains, dry eyes &

mouth etc. I don't really know too much about it really and don't seem to be getting any support either, in fact my wife told me tonight that I need to "pull myself together". Can anybody give any advise on what I might be able to do/take in order to help with symptoms as from what I understand I have a long road ahead. Many thanks. Tom.

I was just diagnosed too.  I'm scared and unaware.  All I know is I am tired all the time.  Naps don't help.  nerve Pains in wrist and ankles. Random pains throughout body. Eyes blurr can't get enough to drink especially at night. Hands and feet get dry, sharp lower stomach pains that migrate to genital area and relieved by bowel movement.  Foggy mind forgetful Can't pull it together decision making not as good. Low blood pressure and I have low grade fevers. Passout episodes. Sensitive to light so bad sometimes I can't open my eyes. My husband is very understanding and takes care of our twins and me when I'm sick.  If she feels you should pull it together just know that's her being wrong and not being understanding which is NOT going to help.  May run you crazy though so don't think it's you and you just weak for not being able to get a grip.  hope you find relief.  Stay strong

hi Tom sorry to hear your news. You can get quite a lot of information from the British Sjogrens Syndrome Assosiation - it is a charity and can be helpful. I too have this condition but lung probelms. You can get artificial tears with preservative - online or from your doctor, always have water nearby and try to keep away from people with colds. It is a long road ahead and there will be times when you feel fine and others not. tiredness can be awful too. It is a shame that your wife says pull youself together - i wish it was that easy. Anyway good luck

Hi tom, well that's very encouraging advice from your wife..... I have had ss for  ten years now and basically you have to take each as it comes, are you on any medication, as far as excerise is concerned little by little if you go in blazing yr feel rotten in a short while, pace yr self swimming is good as is yoga, take care Angela

A clinical trial in people with Sjogren 's syndrome found that 200 mg of NAC 3 times per day improved eye-related symptoms (Walters, Scand J Rheumatol Suppl 1986).
