Just fell off a chair. such an idiot

stepped up onto a chair from the stairs, chair slid, i fell backwards onto the stairs. lay there a moment or two taking stock, thinking oh sh*t have i hurt my hip, but thankfully i appear to have bruised the other side and my ribs. i must have subconciously twisted as i fell to protect the hip. I was in the process of moving my parakeets to a temp cage while i cleaned out their big cage. ive just finished the job and am now a bit sore.

to cap my wonderful morning off, the extra wide sandals i ordered have arrived and are too tight. i despair of ever finding nice shoes again. mens clodhoppers it is then. stupid swollen feet.

I think that you are very lucky, I am just into my 5th week post op and I can't even walk a full mile yet, in doors I manage to potter around with out crutches but if I go out I find that I still need the sticks as for climbing the chair I haven't tried steps or stairs yet my hubby keeps telling me it's too soon

Hi Helen thank goodness you did not damage your hip.

Have you tried Hotters shoes/sandals they do wide fit and another good make is DB wider fit shoes who have some nice sandals; beware you may need a smaller size than you normally take in DB wider fit.

Take care.

Hazel, Derek's wife

ive been managing fine with stairs etc and am focussing on using my op leg to step up in order to strengthen it. I guess i had a false sense of fitness. i didnt even think before attempting to step up onto the chair. if it hadnt slid out i would have been fine.

How many weeks post op are you

6 weeks today

Helen, you have my sympathies. You were lucky with that fall! But I know how you feel with your feet. I have neuropathy in both of mine, but apart of not being able to feel them they are swollen and I have to wear these strap things to control my circulation problems. I have to wear a size 10 mens sandals which are slightly too long, but not being able to feel my feet, they do give some protection to my toes. I usually get my sandals from a Pavers outlet store or from their online store. Some seem so heavy that I cant lift my feet lols. I hope your problem with swelling is only temporary, good luck with the hunt.xx

You have my sympathy Helen - thst's just the dort if idiotic thing I would do! I aldo have enormoudly wide feet so sympathise there too. Have you trued going up a size? I wonder where you got your shoes from. Have you trued Shoe Tailor? Its part if JDWilliams and I have had some success eith them. Also, although they're not very attractive, I have a couple of pairs of. Flat walking sandals with adjustable velcro fastenings which are very comfy. If you likee I could pm you a link - I got them from Amazon.

Rosie x

oh, one of those days eh?  well, take it easy this afternoon -seriously ....and be very gentle with your self ....warm hug

yes please rosie. im supposed to be taking my left shoes to be raised next week but that will only happen if i can find some shoes that a) fit b) i like and c) i can afford. i have arthritis in my feet so they are very sore. finding shoes that are comfortable is really difficult, especially as i will not wear the podiatry shoes that my doc says i need. my gran wears them!!

i have severe swelling since i was pregnant in 2009. swelled up like balloons and never went down again. arthritis and neuropathy means i struggle to find shoes. makes me sad because i love nice shoes. and walking...sob

im quite glad its raining today as i wont have to do anything energentic with my daughter. im really sore now

Just take it easy Helen. comfort is most important especially after a hip replacement.xx

Oh no Helen

So glad you are ok. I am sure you now will realise not to do that again. You were so lucky not to end up at the b ottom of the stairs.

I have worn mens size trainers all my life because womens are way too narrow for me even before I had the swollen feet / ankles. I tend to go for the grey / white colours they don't look that bad.

I know Hailea. i didnt think and came close to wrecking my new hip. im suffering now. my lower back is bruised and swollen on the non-op side (thankfully). i was incredibly lucky as i landed with my back and pelvis on 2 stairs. i dont think ive ever seen my teenage son move that fast :D

im currently wearing those slip on black loafer things which are lovely and wide and not cripplingly uncomfortable but i really wanted to replace my sandals so i will be enduring sports direct over the weekend.

Helen.....Be careful, get someone else to do it......

But regards nice shoes for you.....Dr Maarten do some great styles now, just go to their official Website you will be amazed at the different styles now with their Air Ware soles, good quality shoes that last for years, their sizes are very accurate, and dont do half sizes in that many styles, but I am a 9.5 in many shoes and their 9s are a little tight at first then turn inot absloute slippers, I work in a Casino on my feet all night, well I was till this lot started...but getting over it now...should be fine come Xmas.

Kind regards Ian.

Just to be safe I think I would phone your surgeons secretary explain what has happened and ask for an appointment just to be on the safe side. Better to know you are really ok than to worry about it.

As for footwear you would be better off with men size foot wear for a while. I have bought mens trainers for years because I can't wear womens footwear they are too narrow for me.  Try for something with velcrow straps too you will fibnd it much easier to put them on and take them off yourself. I hope you really are ok and it is just brusing Helen.

im seeing the consultant for my 6 wk follow up on monday. if i get any worse before then ill go see my gp. the bruising is pretty impressive already.

oh i do miss my DM's. i cant wear them now due to the problems i have with swelling and pain. i would have worn them to my wedding if my mum had let me :D

Ok Helen hope everything is ok though.
