Hi all, new to the site. I just got told I have HSV-1 which was identified from a swab from an open sore on my genitals. I’m a little devastated and angry at myself the random encounter which led to this. The doctor (and information I was given) says it’s quite common to have the virus but that still doesn’t help the way I feel.
If it helps anyone else out there, here’s the link of a reputable herpes info site which I was told to go to if you’re looking for reliable info www.herpes.org.nz
Just wanted to put it out there. Thanks for reading/listening.
Don’t be devastated , HSV1 is very common ..almost half of the world has it either orally or genitally . I know it may sound crazy but Genitally is better in my eyes because u won’t get outbreak if u do rarely besides the initial one . HSV1 sheds way less in the genital track you have a 3% chance of passing that along to someone , Genital to genital transmission is crazy low it shouldn’t be a concern . Don’t think of it as herpes think of it as u just having cold sores which is true u just have the cold sore virus but on another part of your body .
Thanks so much for the information. Knowing what you’ve said about the lessened shredding on genitals, has helped me freak out a little less. Reading the stats does help too, but I can’t help but still feel sad about the whole thing. But thanks so much for support. I think I just need time to process it all.
Go to medhelp he’s a specialist and will clear up everything . Transmission rate , outbreak recurrences etc . Your normal we all are we have cold sores (hsv1)just like everyone else just on a different part of our body .
