I just had LTHR a week ago and have a concern. Before the surgery, when I was always limping around in pain, there were times when I felt like someone kneed me right in the thigh. It was a deep muscle pain that would dissipate as I walked. The Ortho surgeon said it was just how an arthritic hip can sometimes manifest pain. Well, I had the surgery a week ago and now I have that same pain constantly. Once again, it dissipates a bit when I walk but does not go away. It's lower than the prosthetic stem and goes all the way down almost to my knee on the front of the thigh. Very tender and sore. Is this normal and will it fade as time passes?
Hi
I had the same muscle pain after my op once you get your muscles working again it will ease keep taking the painkillers I am now 4 was post op second hip replacement ant although I have some tenderness in the muscle it is easing hugs and keep dropping in here there are loads of hippies will to share there experiences x
Thank you Jean! This has been my biggest concern and really the only pain that I am having on a regular basis. My mobility is slowly coming around and I'm only taking about 4) 325mg Tylenol and 1) Celebrex daily for pain so I guess I've been pretty lucky, so far, in that regard. I've been reading a lot of posts where people are really dealing with some pain.
dear cormacrobert
warm welcome to this hippies forum -
I am not sure what to tell you - your surgeon is probably right that this discomfort comes from the bad hip -
Were you diagnosed with OA? maybe walking with a bad hip caused this pain ..
What approach did you have? Anterior or posterior ?
Amazing how a bad hip can affect other parts of the body ...
is the medication helping you for the pain? sometimes it is better to get stronger meds in the beginning and be ahead of the pain than waitinguntil the pain gets to be unbearable --- not sure if this is the case with you ..
When is your next appointment with surgeon? if you are concerned that there is something wrong, go and see a doctor sooner ...
let us know how you are getting on other wise, okay ?
big warm hug
renee
Hi Renee and thank you for your reply. Yes, I was diagnosed with severe OA and had anterior approach. I feel that I'm fortunate in that I am not requiring a lot in the way of pain meds. Only the occasional Tylenol and a daily Celebrex. The pain in my thigh is not a constant one. It only hurts when I try to stretch it out a bit and it is tender to the touch. I do experience pain from it when I stand after sitting or lying down for awhile but it passes quickly. My next doctors appt. is in less than a week so I can surely wait until then to discuss it with him. Other than that, I am feeling pretty good. I can easily walk a couple miles a day now, with a cane, and I can get around the house without the cane but most times I prefer to use it in case I need it.
Thank you so much for your concern,
Cormac
Hi Cormac,
It sounds as if you are really doing well - you are just 7 days post-op from this major surgery, don't need heavy pain medication, are walking a couple of miles a day !!! incredible -
you might be feeling the hardware (prothesis) in your thigh - mine were very sensitive to the touch for a while and I could feel them (I swear) when it was cold !!! like ice picks inside ...
let us know the outcome of your the doctor's visit ...
angel blessings
Renee, I will certainly keep you posted. Tell me a little about your situation. You've been through it, obviously, so was it just one hip? How long ago? Are you full speed ahead at this point?
Kindest regards
