Hi everyone, It has been 5 weeks since I have had both my armpits operated on, as I have been a sufferer for the past 8 years my surgeon recommended that i have all the scaring tissue removed as well as the lumps which were pussing as they are all connected. My left armpit has healed a treat (fingers crossed) but the right one got another infection a week after the op. when they removed my stiches on week 2 the whole thing broke apart which left me with a large hole. Antibiotics have cleared away most of the infection but 5 weeks later and it is still pussing so the wound wont heal.
My surgeon mentioned that people who have gone through the menapause no longer seem to suffer with HS. I do know that mine can sometimes be worse or occur the week before my cycle. I am 37 now and praying for the menapause if this is the truth.
Hi Ann, I am still recovering from surgery myself and had a similar experience to you although only had one armpit done, having had the other one done about 5 years ago. That healed no bother but this time I too got an infection and my stitches burst. I ended up having to ring NHS24 and go into hospital to get the stitches removed so that the infection could be released. I had to take a high dose of both antibiotics and penicillin to clear up the infection. I had a big hole left in my arm and am still seeing the nurse to have it packed and dress. It is improving but will take a while to fully heal. The surgeon wont remove any of the other lumps because of the fact I would need skin grafts. I have loads of them in my groin area and have even had one on my neck and another on the back of my leg.
I am 48 and am still getting these blasted things, having had them since my late teens. I hope that the menopause is the answer then! I certainly have tried anything and everything but only surgery has helped. However, other new ones have popped up so I think it's a case of remove one, get another one somewhere else!
Hope you recover soon.

i am due for surgery in two weeks on my right armpit to get rid of these which i have had for an number of years (am now 35)- the surgeon has said that i will only be off work a week - working as a secretary i cannot see how that will be possible? are either of you working and did you have more than a week off? after reading your experiences i don't think it's gonna b just a week
thanks
Hi,I had surgery on a Tuesday and was off for that day and the following day. When I went back to work, it was sore, more when actually using the mouse rather than typing itself. However, I got an infection 2 days later and ended up having to go back into hospital and was then off for another 2 days. The wound has only just completely healed - it took 2 months!
I have heard loads of people say that tumeric capsules help so I have started taking them within the last week to see if it helps avoid these lumps coming up. I suppose it will take a while for the capsules to take effect but I thought it was worth a shot. I got them from Holland & Barrett - 100 for £8.99.
