Hello my friends both old and new!
As promised, I am posting again after my second TKR on 18th March.
So far, so good. VERY early days, but this experience has been far more positive in the first few days. Haven't had that awful panicy, anxious feeling yet and at the moment feel very much in control.
Could well change in the next few days, so watch this space ....
Such a relief that both operations are over now, God willing.
Great news! so glad that so far you are feeling optimistic about this op! I imagine it's always better the second time, because you do know what it's all about. I'm sure you don;t need any advice, but take it easy, and get as much as rest as you can!

Good luck. Please remember to ice, elevate, rest, keep,on top of pain and, most importantly, be kind to yourself.
Recovery can be a long, and very winding road.

Well done Lynn. How brave you are. I agree,regarding the control aspect. I had my first TKR 10 weeks ago and I was just plain frightened of the unknown.
But good for you. Keep us posted. I will need the other one doing later MUCH later, so keen to hear your experiences.
I am in France and we have 8 days in hospital and just over 2 weeks in residential physio. I cannot imagine going home on day 3. I just can't.
How long between the ops?
Elizabeth, first time round I was terrified of everything. Really petrified, anxious, loss of concentration - you name it.
I think the main difference this time is that I know it's all over now, God willing. The thought of a second knee held me back for months.
In the UK, it is usually four days then outpatient physio.
First TKR 9 months ago.

I was talking to physio last week about having my other knee done and she said it s better to have it as soon as you can because of the wear and tear on it after having the first one done. I couldn't face it at the moment, if ever!
Glad to hear things are going well for you. Almost everyone says no 2 are the same even if both are the same person. I am 2+ weeks out after have the prosthesis removed and laying around with nothing but a spacer in there keeping bones organized. Saw the surgeon and infectious disease Dr yesterday and all seems well. Go back Apr 28 to set a date for having new hardware installed and the rehab to begin again. I asked him if I was getting the good stuff or if the were just giving the old stuff a good scrubbing and reinstalling. He assured me it would be all new. He wouldn't agree to letting me have the old. I thought it might make an interesting piece of art work to hang near my recliner or for my desk.
I am in a rehab center as my wife can't really be expected to do much more than care for herself some. There was a young fellow (just + or - 60) that sat with me at mealtime. He had both of his done the same time. He was a big strong guy that was doing well but when u saw him battling through therapy and getting up and down with the help of a walker I would break into a cold sweat. You take care and hope the process goes well and with no set backs
So far, so good. But early days, I know.

I am delighted that the op is over. The thought of it has held me back mentally for months.
Don't think an easy recovery exists though!

Oh, my Elizabeth. I'm in Canada and my op was on a Fri, out of bed on sun and home on Mon. On my 11 week post op my Dr has me on the list for number 2. Wait time is 6-12 months. Now mind I was waiting over two years for my operation.
Where are you in Canada? I am originally from Edmonton. I am in California now and my surgery was at the Coon institute in St. Helena. It was the minimally invasive TKRMY where they don't cut the main tendon.Done on a Thursday morning, walking Thursday afternoon and home on Friday morning. It was a blur.
Not TKRMY, just TKR. Total knee replacement
Welcome home Lynn! Having that second one done has GOT to be the best therapy ever! At least its half the battle! You can stop dreading it now and just concentrate on healing.
Before you know it, you will be hiking and horseback riding on your daughters ranch 
(or not, but at least its fun to think about
