Just me

Hello everyone! I just wanted to give an update. I switched to a whole foods plant based way of eating slowly over the last 7 months because of my gallbladder which came out March 15. I have not had my usual fall or winter flare ups! I eat no oils, meat, dairy, or eggs. Some people think this is hard to do, I tell them a diver flare is hard to do and this is easy compared. Bonus is weight loss (32.5 lbs). As I eat this way more and more I don't miss those foods that are bad for my colon. Not trying to convert anyone just telling you has a happened to me. Julie

Whole foods plant based, what kinds of foods are these?

hi julie , that’s good to know , glad you have had so much improvement, I am a vegetarian, and I dont eat eggs or fish , I do eat butter milk and cheese though , I wonder if giving those up would stop my flare ups .

All vegetables and fruits. Potatoes, rice, whole wheat breads and pasta and beans.

do you just have whole wheat bread , would gluten free do the same.

I eat whole wheat bread. I am not gluten free.

Dairy was the first thing I cut out, then eggs, then oil, then meat. Very, very little processed food.

well done it’s not easy cutting back on so much.

Thank you. Most was for my gallbladder but then I realized I wasn’t getting flare ups so I am staying this way.

Interesting, however what are you using for protein? Beans and legumes?

Yes, beans, peas, legumes, whole wheat pasta, brown rice and potatoes all have protein along with almost every other vegetable. I do take B12 too.

I thought we was suppose to stay away from skins , peas and beans have skins on them this what we can eat and cant have me so confused!

We are all different. I don’t have problems with skins. I chew very well. I do not do corn though.

I have followed your posts over recent months and can see you are still struggling for understanding. I think you have been looking for absolute answers - you MUST eat this or you MUST NOT eat that. With this illness, there are NO hard and fast rules. If it does not cause you symptoms, then you CAN eat it. But if you get symptoms you CAN’T eat it. I CAN eat peas, beans, red meat, corn, but I CAN’T eat potato, peppers or tomato skins, gluten, full fat. Another person may well tell you they CAN eat gluten but they CAN’T eat dairy, red meat. It is because everyone’s body reacts differently and processes some foods better than others. Why don’t you eat what you can eat, with enjoyment, then occasionally try small portions of different foods? If they don’t affect you, then you can build up your dietary range. I wish you all the best.

I agree with Felinia, we are all different and react in different ways to foods. I have been a vegetarian all my life but I can no longer eat foods high in insoluble fibre. I am certain tomatoes and spices have also caused flares for me in the past so I avoid them, too.I have never suffered with constipation which I know many of you do so maybe for me it is OK to omit a lot of bulk forming foods but might not be the same for others.

It’s trial and error but a diet low in insoluble fibre and high in soluble fibre with no spices or too much acidic foods suits me fine. I am now 9 months pain free.
