Just recently diagnosed last month. I feel rough today

Because I have no pain, well some residue but managable with 20mg of pred I felt I could do more around the house.  I did quite a bit yesterday, lifting and moving boxes (some heavy) and some more housework.  Today I feel really sick and very weak is this normal?  Forgot to mention you could rent me out to haunt the house I am so pale.  Would be grateful for any replies.

Yep we have all done it to our cost. You have to learn to pace yourself and just do a little more on good days. Just rest up for a few days and be kind to yourself. Hope you feel  bit better soon

Oh thank you.  I just needed reassurance.  I am going back to bed for a while just to read and rest.  You would think I should know better having ME for 14 years and yet I have been so ill with PMR undiagnosed for 5 or 6 months.  Thanks mousemum

One of the problems is we think because the pain goes we can go back to normal - we have all gone thru' a similar pattern - mousemum is correct 'You have to learn to pace yourself'

Best of luck lesson one over!

Oh dear, Pat, we've all been guilty of overdoing things but very soon learn that we need to not go at things like a bull in a china shop if we want to feel better and stay that way.  Just remember that however good you might feel, that is because the steroids are reducing the inflammation only - they are not curing the illness, and if we do too much on a 'good' day, that inflammation will resurface on the next.  Hopefully following a few days resting and being kind to yourself you will feel better.

Thanks oh but its a hard lesson to learn.  You are so right, very little pain so thought I could do more.

Mrs O thank you so much, it's a tough price to pay but maybe its the only way I will learn but also with good people like yourself and others on this forum.

You have answered your own question as to why you feel like this! And the others are all oh so right. Just because you felt better with the pred and the highish dose gave you apparent energy it doesn't mean you have th strength to catch up with the things you haven't done for the last few months!

The pred is only managing the symptoms to allow you a reasonable quality of life. The rest is up to you to manage. Your muscles have become intolerant of exercise and require much longer to recover - what was a small job in the past is now the equivalent of you running a 10km race. Into the bargain, the underlying illness that cause the symptoms is still active and it is mainly that that causes the fatigue, the same as with almost all autoimmune disorders.

PMR is to some extent very similar to ME - if you learnt to pace yourself with that you are way ahead of most people with PMR who have never had to learn to remember that before.

Hello pat, can't add to what others have already said, but we've all done it, been there and worn the many t shirts! But it's hard to change the habits if a lifetime and I wiil say again that I believe that I got this condition because I was so stressed out. I'm not saying that being stressed causes this condition what I believe is that if you are so run down with stress and exhaustion the body is weaker and therefore more susceptible to illness. Well that's my theory. therefore I make every effort to not get stressed about anything although that's easier said than done.

i also take supplements that although I have not physically seen any difference I do believe they are doing me some good, that's based on nothing also, but it's what I think. Iron 14 mg, b complex - RDA amount, vit c 500 mgs, calcium 500 mgs, magnesium 188 mgs, vit d RDA ( which is 5 with a back to front yg after it) look up all the benefits of these supplements and make your mind up as to wether they'll be of benefit. Good luck, christina

I find (including myself) that when you begin to feel better you go out and try to make up for all the things you have not been able to do and you wear yourself out. The PMR has not gone away- yet. It is still smoldering inside your body, somewhat subdued by prednisone but still there. I am just 3 months into dealing with my PMR and I do not have the zip I used to have. I am hoping the PMR will run its course in two years and in the mean time I try to do my formal excercises and the work that needs to get done and when I get tired I take a nap.

Same here --- been there --- done that!

Very good advise!  I have to remind myself almost daily not to overdo things.

I believe in taking short naps ---- they are very refreshing!  2 naps a day each 20 minutes.......:-)

Actually Christina stress is a major factor in PMR. There are a lot of suspected triggers and although one alone probably doesn't do it, there is one that is the final straw. Stress is frequently apparently that last link.

So sorry to here that you are not feeling well after feeling so good. I know exactly what your going through. I was just diagnosed about 4  months ago. The doctor tried me on prednisone 15 mgs. and I did feel pretty good, so I did a lot of things around the house and boom, it hit me real hard the next day. I am new here but I've meant a few people here and they were so good to me. They answered so many questions for me and shared their stories . I know you will have all your questions answered too. I sure hope you start to feel better spin.

Thank you for your comments Erica - I feel a bit better today.

Thank you Eileen for all your information it really does help and reassure me.  I am feeling a bit better today but will be doing zero.  Got my ESR results and they are down from 124 to 27 in just a month of pred.  Also CRP down from 46.7 down to 7.8  I agree that ME is very similar to PMR and I should know better but I seemed to have more energy with ME not a lot mind you but again this is a totally new illness.  There now I have slapped my own hand lol

Hi Christina, thank you for replying all information is greatly appreciated.  I am feeling a bit better today but will be doing nothing, just resting.  I totally agree about the stress.  In my opinion I got ME 14 years ago and I put it down to chronic stress.  The same with PMR chronic stress (unavoidable).

I do take supplements, superstrength omega 3, evening primrose oil, echneacha (can't spell that one) vitamin C 1000mg, multivitamin for over 50s, vitamin B strong compound - what is a back to front yg (yogurt)  I agree with Eileen that for me chronic stress was the major player if not only factor in me having PMR.  Thanks again christina.

I totally agree with you and because I was so sick for so long I felt well enough to catch up.  But alas and alac will not be doing that again.  Thanks again.

Cheryl thank you so much for your comments.  You are right I don't know where I would be without the people on this forum.  I am now on 20mg of preds a month now.  I will never forget yesterday I felt so sick and weak and at times frightened.  I have slept quite a bit so that has helped.
