Just released from pt following tkr

Hi all,

Glad I found this forum awhile back. I had thought I was going back to work as an over the road trucker a couple weeks ago but company and doctor decided I needed more therapy. I just finished up today. I had a left tkr on November 3, 2015 and had a few problems after surgery but once I started physical therapy everything just fell into place. I have no problems with my knee except for the inner side of my knee where today it's throbbing. I'm thinking I overdid it a little at therapy but not sure. Otherwise its the cold weather coming in after a few warm days.

Irregardless I want to thank everyone for the posts and replies to mine. I'll be checking in to make sure I'm keeping up to date on everything..so thank you all

Dawn

Best of luck......be very careful, especially getting out of your rig. Make sure your footing is good and the surface dry and free of oil when you first touch down. Are you on a regular run or into different areas on every trip.

Glad to hear that you took a little more time before returning to work, Dawn. I think that we all think that we must get back to it.  I went back to a desk job at 6 weeks following both of my TKRs, but I now know that that was a mistake, and I suffered stiffness and a lack of straightening with both in no time.  I had MUAs on both and had to have the second knee opened up again a year later.  I had 3 months off after that...and was doing well.  This last week has been very busy and I've not been able to take regular breaks. Boy am I paying for it today!

I'm really pleased that you feel now that you are in such a good place...this is a horrible operation!

Hi Dawn!

So glad to hear that your additional physical therapy and waiting a bit to return to work worked so well for you!

I had that inner knee pain right from the get go with MY LEFT TKR, and it FINALLY quit about three months into PT. So happy when THAT pain stopped!

For having surgery in November you are doing VERY WELL! With this surgery it is hard to know what to expect as far as recovery is concerned. My left knee took longer to feel somewhat normal. My right TKR done four months later was MUCH EASIER, healed faster, and had MUCH LESS SWELLING. I think it all depends on your physical condition going into surgery and issues the surgeon runs into once the knee is opened up. My surgeon said he never is 100% sure of all he will need to repair UNTIL he actually gets in there and examines everything.

The other thing with knees and hips is we begin to compensate for the PAIN we have prior to any surgery. We develop ways to walk and stand that hurts less. Our bones get all out of line in there, and it takes awhile after surgery to walk and move normally again with the replacement parts!

Wishing you continued success! Our neighbor drives a semi that has a gorgeous red cab. When he pulls in his driveway after a long run, we always say, "Things are in control now. Optimus Prime is home!"

well done dawn glad you waited to return ,throbbing is just that!! over doing it it will settle down just ice and rest when it happens

Dawn,

So good to hear you are done with PT and headed back to work. This forum is a super place to go to. Everyone has helped me so much with my recovery. I like you am going back to work on the 25th of January.  I drive a bus.  Also still taking therapy for another month to strengthen my knee.  That was my push for therapy. I am good to go just want more strength.  Good luck to you.  Please be very careful.  Be mindful of your knee, you still need to take certain precautions.  enjoy having your life back after all that recovery. I know I am.
