Just Started, Help?

Hey guys, I'm new here. I just started Prozac after stopping cilatopram (Celexa). Since starting Prozac my anxiety has been at an all time high, but my depression has been the most under control it's ever been. I can get up in the morning and feel happy and...normal... I think. I haven't felt this way in a long long time. But I spent 4 hours last night scared I was going to die of fright and my anxiety has been preventing me from going to class some days (I am in university). On Celexa my depression was very severe but my anxiety was completely under control. I'm kind of at a loss of what to do. I've been also getting headaches. Not too severe, like the start of a migraine, and they'll come and go through t the day. Does the anxiety get under control over time? What about the headaches? It's too soon for me to decide to go off of the prozac, especially given what it's doing for my depression. I'm just looking for others' experiences and maybe a little hope for my anxiety?

Hi alidun, yes it takes fluoxetine time in your body to work also I've used this med twice and both times my anxiety was worse both times and for me my anxiety headache diarrhea dry mouth didn't subside untill my 5th week so give it some time, hope you feel better

Hi alidun - all the advice I'm reading says you have to ride a pretty rough ride to get to the benefits of Prozac/Fluoxetine. I'm a week into it and my anxiety remains high, fear of the future (I'm getting old) remains but I believe I'm not as depressed.

The "side effect" I'm getting now is not being able to get to sleep till the early hours, despite being exhausted - and being tired must be the worst thing for depression and anxiety.

I'm told it takes five or six weeks for Fluoxetine to work.

The good news is that you are here and  can get support and advice around your problems. I hope things soon improve for you and you can get back to lectures.

Hi alidun,

I'm in a very similar situation! I was taking citalopram for a while, for my social anxiety and it was working until I moved to another country without friends/family. At that point I started to have a depression-like symptoms. My GP changed my medication from citalopram to fluoxetine 20 mg 12 days ago, so I definitely sympathize with you.

My last days have been hellish. Very high anxiety, chest pressure, tiredness, unmotivated. No problem with headache though.

I'm sure it is soon to start looking for alternatives. I will stick with fluoxetine for a couple of weeks to see how it goes...
