Just started today but had no advice. Help please!

Hi, i just started Orlistat today. The Weight Management Service wrote to my GP to ask if i could go on them. 5 days later i got a phone call from my GP's secretary saying i had a prescription left for me.

I have not been told anything except that you have to look at the label and make sure the item has 10% or less of fat, per 100. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and what else i have to look out for and what to eat.

ANY advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks Jen x

you should consume no more than 30g fat per day and no more than 15g in any one meal, you should ideally be looking at foods which are 5% fat or less per 100g

despite only having your perscription left and not getting to see a Dr you're no worse off than most of us on here whoes Drs know very little or nothing about these tablets!

read through the forum, theres a massive amount of advice, hints n tips from people who have all been where you are now

spend some extra time when shopping for the next few weeks, check out the nutrition info and you'll soon learn what you can eat and what you should avoid!

good luck

Sparkles is correct not a lot of advice seems to come from the Dr but I have managed to get fortnightly appts with a nurse at my surgery and she has been a god send- very informative, encouraging.

From my understanding you should see a GP before starting so they can monitor your weight properly and also check out your blood pressure, unless of course this is being done elsewhere.(?)

It's quite an easy diet to understand a bit difficult at first to find foods that fit the criteria but after spending a bit of extra time at the shops initially you do find that mosts foods have a low fat version it's just a case of looking and recognising what and where they are.

Good luck and welcome to the gang :D

Thanks. I am getting my weight checked at the Weight Management clinic once a month so maybe thats why the doc wasn't soo bothered with me getting weighted by him.

I am just over the week mark with the pills and so far so good. Just hope to have the strength to keep it up.

Thanks for the advice x
