Just started

Hi

Started on 20 mg on Friday after 5 days of griping ache and wind. Have experienced excess acid previously but have previously survived on antacids.

Am taking this in the morning and the ache is worse after; is this usual?

Should I cut out my fresh coffee?

Is it normal to feel worse before I feel better?

Thanks!

Yes the ache is common, for me the granular formulations ache less, try and have a bit of toast or cereal with your coffee

This is my 3rd course of omeprazole in over 5 years. First time, I experienced severe gripping pains in my stomach and back which were relentless and convinced myself I had a cancer or something equally life threatening. After having the scope down and scans galore the gastrentologist diagnosed chronic gastritus which lasted a year

The drug appeared to work for the odd day here and there and then the pain would return.I was having no qualify of life.

food and drink types made no difference as the food allergy testing I had proved in desparation to get to the bottom of this.

I can honestly say the drug was of some use for the pain but my specialist advised it was a condition that would go in time. It eventually went after a year and have had shorter bouts since.

My advice would be to not worry about food stuffs, try and eat often, take the meds and do not try to analyse a pattern or reason for your pain.It drove me round the bend. It does go eventually.

Thanks, I have to say since Monday I have felt a thousand times better. A few minor gripes but I will stick it out another 7 days...Tenderness and nausea have gone. I know excatly what you mean, I was convinced with the pain that it would never end!

I would lay off the fresh coffee first thing in the morning personally. It has been well documented that caffeine exacerbates acid, idt certainly does in my case. First thing in the morning is when alot of people get heartburn, when their stomach is empty especially if you are bending etc., I take my tablet an hour before breakfast, sometimes I have an instant coffee, but very often have it later and just have a water at first. I know their was a post earlier saying don't analyse everything you eat and drink, but I think you owe it to yourself to watch some of what you are injesting, else what is the point in taking a drug if you are going to disregard your diet entietely. Fresh coffee has so much more caffeine than instant, I know its' gorgeous but perhaps you could have it later in the day rather than at that delicate time of first thing in the morning maybe. Just a thought from a fellow coffee lover!
