Just startted setraline

My doctor has just started me on setraline 25 mg. I am on my 2nd day but already feeling my mood is getting better however it is giving me nausea and increased anxiety. Has any one experienced this before? And how long before these side effects go away?

FEELING SICK IS A NORMAL SIDE EFFECT OF THE MEDICATION THIS SHOULD SETTLE DOWN AS SOON AS YOUR BODY HAS GOT USE TO THE MED AND DOSE. I'V BEEN ON SERTRALINE FOR 6 MONTHS AND AT FIRST I HAD THE SAME AS YOU. I THINK YOU SHOULD GIVE YOUR SELF AT LEAST 10 DAYS TO GET THE MEDICATION INTO YOUR SYSTEM OVER THE 10 DAYS THE FEELING OF NAUSIA SHOULD START TO WEAR OFF. AS FOR THE ANXIETY THAT WILL IMPROVE BUT IT WILL TAKE TIME. IF YOU ARE STILL NOT HAPPY TALK TO YOUR G.P. AGAIN HE'S THERE TO HELP YOU. GOOD LUCK.

Hi Lucky, :P

I thought I was alone in this dilemma. How are you feeling now since you have been on it for 6 months?

I am worried of taking this medications for that long and see no improvement.

I hope that the nausea will wear out quicker because it affects my eating but within 2 days of taking it my mood has greatly improved. So I will continue taking it. As for anxiety it is really a problem but I am taking some anti-anxiety tablets called Lorazepam and it is helping.

Thank you and good Luck.

Hi,

I have been on these for 7 months now. I felt better almost straight away. For the first couple of days i felt kinda drunk but that passess. I'm now starting to come off them but haven't had much luck.

The sickness will pass, i also had headaches for a while but they soon went.

Good luck

Hello It's Lucky again. I will tell you what happened to me. Just before christmas last year I started to get panic attacks which really frightened me, I also started suffering with anxiety. At worse I could not stand for more than a couple of mins, answer the phone,,, wash my hair go out side ,go to work, answer the door, and was scared to sleep and scared to be awake. I tryed to get my self better with no med , but by easter this year I had made some progress but was still suffering and still could not go out or to work. I started Sertrline in the April and like you had the side effects, after 4 days the sick feeling started to wear off but it still took a good six weeks for the dizziness to stop. However I carried on with the med and I am now back at work in quite a responsible job, I can go out, meet friends, and I have just come back from Greece after a 2 week hol. I feel much much better and still improving. You will be the same but please be patient. I hope this story will inspire you and give you some hope, all I can say is thank god for Sertrline. I'm sure you will feel better soon. And for your original question I FEEL FANTASTIC.

Hello it is Milly here your message has inspired me . Iam improving a great deal. My story is similar to yours. I was in a responsible job and then one day on may way home from work I got very anxiuos and panicky. By the time I reached my house I was crying my eyes out, but when my husband asked me why I had no answer to why I was crying. I went and saw my GP next day and was started on ecitalopram which made the symptoms worse and he chaged it to sertraline a week later. I am doing better on setraline except I get very tired and nausea. I hope this gets better with time. It is only my 3rd day and things are not getting worse.

Keep on keeping well. :D

Hi I have been on sertraline for 6 weeks and I have found them very helpfull I tried to do it myself but was not sleeping so I went to the doctors and he prescribed sertraline at first I did not want to take them because I thought of all the side effects the neausea etc but I have persiveered with them and I am feeling better but I still have my odd days but they are getting less so please persevere with them.

Hi,

I have been on citralopram for about 12months, but my doctor advised me to change to sertraline. For the first couple of days i felt better more like myself. I have nearly been on it two weeks and now it just makes me feel angry as if i have really bad PMT. Not sure what to do, whether to go back to the doctors or to keep with it. Any advise???

Many thanks

Hi hetty5123, I have had a similar experience with setraline. The first 3 days I felt great but this is my 6th day and I feel rotten, I am on both mirtazapine and setraline. Only my doctor knows the reason why. I felt okay even on just Mirtazapine I am going back to him tomrrow to expalin my syspmtoms especially nausea, weakness, tiredness and feeling teary for no reason yet I was not like that 6 days ago.

What time of the day do you take setraline? I take mine in the daytime may be that is why I experience these symptoms, may be it is better to take at night?

I have been on sertraline for 6 weeks and been back to my doctor today and he has advised me to take mine at night. I have a couple of days when I am fine then I go back to feeling neausea and also very anxoius glad someone else is feeling that way.

Hi Hetty5123,

I went back to my doctor today because I could not tolerate the nausea, tiredness, weakness and lowere mood anymore. She advised me to stop. I had been on it only 6 days. I will continue with mirtazapine that does not cause me any problems and afterall I was doing well on it I do not know why my other doctor added another drug on it. Sometime these doctors think they know it all but they can be wrong at times. I am glad I have one I am already okay with.

hi im on my 6th day of setraline today i av had a weird headache like a stabbing in back of head at top is ehis a side effect.

Heloo just started 50mg of sertraline yesterday ,feeling really sick and anxious and quite spaced out. Just want to know how long do these side effects last before you start feeling improvement? Xx

Hi Everyone, I have also started Sertraline this week, on monday. The first day I noticed that my thoughts were calmer but mood incredibly low and cried all day, second day I felt a bit manic! I felt like I was tripping over my words, but felt good in mood! Third day which was yesterday, I felt very wobbly and extremely spaced out, like I was in the land of zog! Went for a walk and felt like I was gonna pass out! My appetite is not there (wasnot much before mind). I have noticed that other people have had similar side effects but not all the ones I have mentioned. Today, I think is better however I do have a banging headache! I have not gone outside the house yet but dont feel as spaced today. Mood seems ok. Is this normal to have up's and down's taking this tablet? Also how long roughly before you have days where you are feeling consistently ok? Tough question I know as suppose we all respond differently. I think I will carry on taking it as things dont seem as bad as they were before so thats a good thing right? xxx

I have been prescribed Sertraline today. I'm on Citalopram at the moment, which I have to come off of over the next two weeks then start the Sertraline. I am very nervous about it. I've been on Citalopram for three years but over the last six months have found it getting harder to cope with life and get no pleasure from anything anymore. Last week I had to leave a meeting in floods of tears because a colleague had been a bit abrupt - so embarasing. I hope the Sertraline will improve things but looking at posts from those previously on Citalopram I'm not looking forward to the transition. If anyone has a positive experience of the transition to share it would give me a boost.

hi anne17 i have just come off citalopram after 4years and am now taking sertraline only been taking it for 4 days but already i can feel the difference although i am getting increased anxiety and feel a little sick at the moment my mood is as lifted and i am not thinking negative thoughts as much.

i am going to definitely stick with them after reading other peoples feedback they will hopefully work for me too seems like a long haul but will get there in the end. smile

Hi there! Since I last reported, I wanted to tell everyone that my mood continued to brighten with less worrying that thoughts. My anxiety decreased and was starting to feel like I felt many years ago which is a good thing! The first week was half a tab, 25mg and the second week, 50mg. Since commencing the increase I have noticed that my mood has dipped? In turn my motivation has dipped but still forcing myself to go out a bit. I do not understand this. Has anyone experienced this initially following an increase in dose? Does it get any better as I was starting to like how I was feeling before.

Reading through all of this is quite worrying in itself. I've been on Citalopram for many years, never felt they worked. Ofcourse several suicidal attempts, feeling that others deserve to live than myself.

Doctors are switching me to this Setraline and from what most of your are saying, the side effects are pretty bad. Doesn't this just make your mood lower? I just wanted to check up on this medication to see what the doctors are doing to me.

Michelle - I'm also starting the 25mg next week and i guess 50mg the week after, so taking more has decreased your mood? This is ofcourse not good at all, I'd like an update since now it should be in your system.

Loved the first week on it - felt on top of the world. After that the feeling wore off and I was back to feeling crap again. Have of a couple of months and stopped taking it. Got a stern look and a telling off but it didn't seem to be doing any good. Never offered me anything else.

Hi all, glad there are other people out there taking this drug. I have been on it for 5 months taking 50mg per day. I am experiencing a high pitch sound constantly in my head, it is like tinitus I have been told. However when working although its there in the background i tend not to dwell and notice it so much but if relaxing or not doing anything it becomes unbearable. Is there any one out there experiencing the same?
