Hi Lorna, I had a panic attack on the second day of taking Citalopram and generally felt wired with anxiety. The good news is this is not uncommon and in fact can mean the medication will have a positive result in treatment of symptoms. I also have a history of depersonalisation or ‘unreality’ as I prefer to call it. It can be a very disturbing sensibility to have but again it’s harmless and will go away in time. My experience was a rocky 5 days or so then slight improvement with an odd ok day here and there, it was about 4 months for me before I think the best results were felt. If you can hang in there and get through a day at a time, make a daily diary of your experiences, how you feel in the morning, afternoon, evening etc.... and you’ll soon see improvement. I take my meds in the morning as and in the beginning I found this to be helpful as the day would give me more of an opportunity to engage my mind on things to divert my mind from how I was feeling. I hope this may be helpful.
Hi, i definitely think you should stick with citalopram, it does take a little while to start working but it has such great reviews and i have also gotten far better off it to what i was like 9 weeks ago. With regards to the depersonalization i had this around 4 years ago and i got checked for everything i had no idea what on earth was wrong with me but i went to cbt and he taught me to stop fearing it and just accept its there and let it do its thing and then the less you fear it the less you'll feel it. I now dont have it it just kind of went away but i had to work very hard to change my thinking with cbt
Thanx for ur reply .I wish this dp would go as it's distressin.but I found a drug tht does help we dp

Defo stick with it. You may experience this for a few weeks as the medication starts to work fully. Try to take some time out, get some support and know that it will work but it takes time. The side effects can be worse than the original anxiety and depression but this will pass. Hope you feel better soon. Mark x
