hi all can anyone tell me if they have had this I’m 7 weeks post trhr everything was going fine but now I’ve got aching leg knee and ankle can’t sleep at night as it just doesn’t stop aching I was told 5 years ago I had arthritis in my knee then they did an X-ray a couple of months ago and said it was hip which is what I have just had done but now my legetc has got worse
Hi Christine, it is perfectly normal to get this, sometimes it is caused by tight muscles and other times it is to do with learning to walk differently especially if you had a difference in leg length previously or it could be your leg is longer than the other. Have you had your post op check yet? if not mention it to the surgeon.
You have not mentioned if it is your calf? if so and it is hot and red go to A&E immediately. just thinking of DVT.
I used a technique to walk properly again that i physio taught me after a knee op. you have to walk heel/toe it does work but is hard to grasp first.
It is major surgery and our muscles take up to 2 years to heal.
Like you i thought it was my knee originally but it was my hip and it was very bad osteoarthriits, so much so the surgeon didn't know how i was walking around like i was. It will all get better in time, it is early days yet
Thank you for your reply I’ve had my post op review my surgeon said I’ve got a bit of arthritis in my knee but other wise all good if I decide to have knee op go back to my dr. It my physio whom I’ve finished now said it could still be hip ad it’s early days
That is perfectly normal, mainly caused by walking "different". Sometimes you have to really concentrate on walking straight until it becomes natural again. I'm 3 weeks post-op (right THR) and have to keep reminding myself to do so. I had resurfacing done 10 years ago on the left which broke 7 weeks in, followed by a THR. I remember all the aches and pains I had during that recovery so I'm trying to avoid it this time. Take care and remember to rest!
I’m 11 weeksout. It still hurts while I’m sleeping. I think it’s normal for awhile. If you haven’t tried it already, try alternating sleeping on your back and “good” leg.
Hi Christina. I am11 weeks out and still experience knee and groin pain, probably because I am still trying to favour the operated leg. I was getting better until I went to the gym at 9 weeks. A personal trainer there pushed me to do too much ,, and I have been paying for it the last 2 weeks.
Aching in the IT band to the right of the incision ( in the front, anterior).
I was even afraid I damaged something, so I went back to the doc, they xrayed and said all is ok.
I have had to go back on pain pills, and the doc did authorize some physical therapy with a professional that specializes with hip exercises.
