Knee cap pain

Is it normal for my knee cap to be hurting so much .

Im coming up to five months since my TKR and my knee cap doesn’t hurt really but it does feels tight still.First thing in the morning the whole knee is tight until you get moving but the knee remains with the tight feeling all day, doesn’t bother me too much but it doesn’t bring me pain as yours does, hopefully other replies may be more help.

The tightness will loosen with time, the more you walk and flex the knee.

I also have knee cap pain but it’s not so terrible although With the surgery, my pain threshold has upped.

I am ten months post op on the knee that gives me problems, the other knee is 18 months post op and I can do a lot with it almost painlessly

I have had both knees replaced - my left TKR took place three years ago and my right TKR took place one year ago.  Before my first operation three years ago, the surgeon had indicated that the patella may need resurfacing but at the time the operation took place, it was decided that this was not necessary.   No patella resurfacing was mentioned prior to the right knee replacement operation which took place one year ago.  However, after about three months I realised that I was having pain on the front of my knee which was causing me to limp and which also caused me to cut down on the amount of walking which I was doing.  At this stage I did not know whether I was doing too much exercise or not enough exercise!  I made an appointment with the consultant as I needed advice as to the best way to deal with this pain. At the appointment, my knee was x-rayed and the consultant advised that he could see why I was having pain.  This was due to arthritis on the back of my patella.  He told me to carry on exercising, especially to build up my quads, as this would help to support my knee.  This worked - and eventually the frontal knee pain disappeared,  However, the surgeon had indicated that he would make an appointment for me to return to the hospital 12 months post op to have both knees x-rayed and to see what was happening with the arthritis on the patella.   I have not yet had this appointment but, obviously not too worried as the pain mainly disappeared.  There is some mild pain occasionally - maybe if I have done too much cycling on the exercise bike or walking but not enough to cause me to limp.
