knee injury, depressing, any advice?

hi, im Nathan, i broke my knee when i was 9 im 21 now, ive always had niggles ever since i came out of hospital but just like tenderness etc and its never been a problem.. but since october-ish 2014 ive been getting really bad attacks of my bad knee where it will swell up and be in severe pain and wont bend or straighten.. the symptoms come and go but regular and have done for the past 6 month, i self diagnosed myself with arthritis but it only happens in my bad knee and i was playing football at the time and have been fighting through the pain and still being able to play football and run when i physically can, but i had to quit work and i cant live like this anymore, recently i noticed my MCL ligament (inside of knee) hurts when i touch it and im thinking now i might of injured it all those months ago and not known.. im going to the doctors again who basically messed me about last time but can anyone give me there opinion on what they might think it is? can you live on a torn ligament for these months and exercise on it without knowing, is it possible?

You need xrays,MRI or some form of examination by an orthopedic surgeon to know exactly the typebod damage. Self diagnosis can leave you a cripple for life. It might be as simple as needing scoped and cleaned up or some form of therapy, brace or other special treatment by a professional plus you need to have your mind freed up from the possibility of doing something wrong

Hi Nate, agree you need x-Ray and MRI scan ... when u see your GP insist on having them. Hope you can get sorted 😉

Hi Nathan

I am having problems with my knee - I played badmington one evening and woke up the next morning unable to straighten my left leg.  I had if "hoovered" out quite a few years ago but it has never been the same since.  I am experiencing lots of pain and ended up at the doctors who suspects I have a medial meniscus tear of my cartledge.  I am waiting for a referral to an orthopedic surgeon - it sounds as though you need a thorough examination by a qualified surgeon to get to the root of your problem.  Don't hang around, go and see your doctor and insist on specialist advice.  If you leave it, you risk the chance of it getting worse as you get older.

thanks for the replies everyone i cant get in doctors until after easter but im 100% going to go and get them to send me for scans.. but can i just ask, if someone had torn a ligament would the symptoms be none stop or could they go away for a day and come back the next? because my knee is in mild pain everyday but some days i manage it easily and think im ok but other days like every 2 days the attacks of my knee happen.. had one today was in bad pain and couldnt move my legs for 20minites and its been in bad pain since this afternoon but thats whu i thought it was arthritis because its the knee i broke when i was a youth and some days it feels not 100% bit 80% ok..

couldnt move my leg.. just my bad knee leg.

Hi nathan

although my doctor suspects I have a torn meniscus,  lately I have found that somedays my knee feels o.k. (It's not strong,I just don't get pain). Just when I start to think he could be wrong, it plays up again.  I think the only way either of us are going to know what's really going on is when we see a specialist. When you see your doctor after Easter, push him hard to see a specialist.

Have a happy Easter.

thanks again this has made me almost certain its something torn because i got fouled in a football game in october last year my foot was planted in the ground and a big guy came through the side of my leg and i got a shock through my knee.. i cant believe ive been trying to live through it for this amount of months.. the reason i ruled injury out was because some days the pain is minimal and the swelling isnt bad.. but it keeps coming bacl every couple of days and the attacks of my.knee are severe..
