I need some advise on how to deal with knee pain from my broken ankle. I broke my ankle---posterior malleolus back on June 1st when I tried to ride my bike up a curb, I also landed on my knee when I fell and broke my ankle. I was in a CAM boot for eight weeks and July 26th my doctor had me ditch the boot and start walking in regular shoes. Last week I went back to work which requires me to be on my feet all day which is hard on my knees. I am getting tired of limping around and feeling like an old lady after work. This my first ever broken bone so I don't know how long this pain and discomfort should last.
Geez, sounds horrible-did you talk to your dr about this? Maybe a brace would help?
I'm a nurse so I'll be looking at same situation when going back to work. However my Dr has already said I'll start on amended duties (7.5 hour shifts x 3 instead of 12.5hr x 3). If you are struggling talk to your Dr about amended duties and also contact your occupational health department - they will know how to integrate a worker back into duties after an injury x
I am 5 weeks out from surgery for a bimalleolar fx- an still in a cast for 2 more weeks and then in a boot for 6 more... MD has me out of work until late october.... I still cannot leave me foot down from more than 45 min due to pain and swelling - am hoping that improves w/ the boot.... i keep wondering how I can ever get back to work. I am an RD and work in a dialysis clinic so am on my feel a lot also....
I have heard that these injuries put a lot of pressure on other parts of your body - and I already feel it. My lower back has been an issue and realized a few days that my hip bursitis is acting up... can not lay on my right side anymore. (my right ankle is the one injured) -so am assuming picking up this heavy cast all the time is wreaking havoc! I use the scooter and walker around the house, but still find I reach for things and I know that twisting and turning is not good. BTW, I am 58 so guess it may take a tad longer but geez- this is tough
I wake up every morning and thank the good Lord for getting me through another day and being a day closer to walking, hiking, and kayaking again!
I have also wondered about a brace with all this is done-
My ankle still swells so much- my toes look like bit sausages!
Loving this forum- so much help from those that have 'been there'.
thx
