Hi, for the past 4/5 weeks I have had pain in my left knee when I cross my legs. It isn't all over my knee cap but more on the right hand side of my left knee. It doesn't hurt at any other time. I don't do any sports, the most I do is walk the dog. Is this something I should get checked out or has anyone had experience of this going away after a time?
Try not crossing legs for a few weeks and see if different. How old are you. Might be worth doing some knee strengthening exercises.
My doctor old me to avoid crossing my legs until pain and swelling had subsided.
Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do that."
Doctor: "Stop doing that."

Yeah, I'd stop crossing my legs for a while to see if the pain disappears. Could be a lot of things: meniscus, MCL, just plain bursitis. If the pain goes away and then comes back when you start crossing your legs again, see an ortho and get some imaging done. Meniscus problems are usually caused by the twisting of the knee. If that's the problem and it's a slight tear, you can get away without surgery but usually not for long. Sooner or later, you twist it some more and need to have it scoped in order to fix it. You're not there yet. Stop crossing your legs or doing any motion that twists the knee and see if it subsides.
