It often seems to happen. Called referred pain. If the hip feels fine I would not worry otherwise seek help.

Yes it can happen, it is because you are walking differently, now you have your new hip in place. If your hip feels ok, check with the GP if you are worried or call he ward you were in, they are available for advice post op and it is early days for you.
Hi Terrie, I had tightness in my operated leg. It affected all my knee muscles and I could not bend it for a good month. The pain and swelling moved down my thigh to the posterior part of my knee which then got slightly swollen. It was another 2 months till I could bend my knee to have my foot touch my bum. I used rub 535 on my knee and then on my belly tried to bend my knee while supporting it with my strong leg. I was told that my muscles were recovering from the surgery and the swelling and the deeper healing are normal. My doing knee curls and extensions with a little bit of resistance helped a lot. My situation is slightly different since I was not bearing any weight for 6 weeks and for someone who goes to the gym everyday for an hour, it was a shock to my system so I did most upper body exercises and worked on my other leg, which had a resection in December 2016. It had been almost 6 months and all aches and pains are gone.If the pain persists, get it checked out at your follow up appointment. For me it was every 6 weeks.
I had the same thing off and on (I'm 7 weeks RTHR). It has to do with how you're walking, compensating. I would walk "deliberately" so I wouldn't lean too much and it works.

I had some knee pain too. AS others say it's probably because of the way you are walking post oip. However you also need to make sure you are completely staightening your leg while you walk and thgat you are doing your quad exercises where you lie on your back and tense the quad muscles in your leg pushing your knee down into the bed/floor. I also have a bit of a problem with my knee going inwards as I walk which, I'm told, is due to weak glutes. So I do squats to try and strengthen those. Legs apart holding on to something and bending legs a bit. I can now do squats without holding on to anything but it has taken a while.

Thank you, My post op appointment is the 4th of January, I get the stables removed , I will try the squats once my doctor gives me the go ahead.
I do the Exercises that the Physical therapist gave me in the hospital.
I try for 4 times a day , seems 3 is the most in a day.
I ventured out to the store yesterday and the walking felt good until I got back home and o believe that I might have over walked.
I do feel a lot better this time around moving much better and all around recovery seems much faster. Which I am very thankful for.
My knee continues to feel swollen and stiff, and my foot seem to point inward I try to turn it outward when I walk and exercise.
Is this something you also experienced ?

I was told it was from all the twisting..mine took a couple weeks and is fine now.

With me it's the knee that wants to bend inwards, but iut is gradually getting better.
Hope you get some good advice on the 4th.

I've had pain and swelling for weeks. The surgery is pretty savage involving saws, drills and hammers and given the femur is connected to the knee it's hardly surprising that it's sore afterwards. It could also be referred pain from the hip. It will improve for you I'm sure.

I am 51 and a gym rat and wanting to more exercise but still unsure of what I can do .I start Physical therapy sessions next week and wanted to get a jump on things (no pun intended ).
My knee was holding me back from continuing with any knee bending in fear that I might have a problem with my knee.

Hi Terry, I love exercising and being active and the goal is to get healthier and stronger and it takes patience and planning. 2 weeks post op is pretty early so physio will assess and then give you more exercises to have the best outcome. O worked on my upper body and abdominals since I could not best weight for 8 weeks
. Only after I saw my surgeon at the 12 weeks I was given the ok to only do limited gym stuff but no restrictions in pool so I swam every day and did hip/knee aqua therapy. Best of luck
