Thanks so much for your kind support. I had a really bad day yesterday so everything seemed worse than normal. Today is a better day and I feel so much better knowing that its just a case of doing as much as you can cope with and not fitting to a certain level by a certain time and that everyone is different. Is it best to ice before exercising to numb it as well as take painkillers. I am going to look into a cryo cuff it sounds like it could be a big help. Does anyone know when the Physio contacts you for your first outpatient appointment as i have'nt heard from them yet.
Thanks to everybody i love to hear your experiences and know that others understand.
Your hospital should have a help line to ring and they could tell you when to expect to hear from physio..it probably varies from place to place. Mine was just over two weeks post op. 're the ice I did that afterwards not before, but that was just me. I did ice generally pretty much all of the time, just adjusting the ice pack so not on same area too long. j
ot too long on none area
There are good days and bad days , cryo cuff does help , dont forget to moisturise the scar and surrounding area . Keep up with the physio as much as possible it really is important . It's almost 20 years since my first replacment and 19 for the other knee and both are still going strong . It was 6 month each time before I returned to work . Everyone is different , what takes 4 weeks for one may take 3 or 7 weeks for another . Look at your own progress not the progress of someone else .
They generally say ice AFTER exercise, rather than before. Initially I was icing before but then realised that it perhaps wasn't the best thing to do, but that's only my thoughts. Maybe others think differently. But it's generally thought that you 'warm up' before and 'cool down' after.
