ts 14 months since I had TKR. After home physio I had to have knee manipulated followed by Hospital physio then two courses of 6 weeks in Hydrotherapy pool. I have really good movement and bend in my leg but am still in constant pain most especially a night but I am told that everything is fine. I am assured that there is no infection. Does anone know if this is usual pls
I dont know if it is usual but I am the same! Am going to go back to consultant when I get home from holiday as have met a few people who are not having any issues at all and it is making me very fed up! I went back at 6 months and they sais nerve and small structural damage can take a long time to heal - even 2 years. But pain - at your stage does not sound right. Mine is more of discomfort and stiffness have not really had to resort to painkillers. If its a night I am told it is probabably inflammation building up over the day - so you could focus on ibrobrufen for a week or so and see if it helps. Otherwise - go back for medical advice again.
Hi Barbara, I think by 14 months you shouldn't be in pain, I would go to doctors and see what they say. I am 14-15 weeks and still in pain but am told it's early days. I really feel for you, hope you get it sorted soon, best wishes Jannette
Hi Barbara
The pain you could be having at this stage is neuropathic. It takes a long time for the nerves to heal and sometimes, even when healed, they still send signals to your brain!! There are meds you can take, you can try acupuncture ( though not always successful because of the implant, but might just interrup the signals). As a last resort you can have Guenethadine blocks. This is done under a mild sedative/anaesthetic and the block injected into a vein in your foot (you have a tourniquet above the knee). Without the anaesthethic it is too painful to bear. The injection itself is an anaesthetic that bathes the nerve endings. If it is neuropathical, there is nothing your surgeon can/will do, it is down to your pain management team. At night, try muscle rub and wearing a loose tubigrip, this will add a layer so that your bedclothes, duvet etc, do not touch your skin. A TENS can sometime help as well. It will setlle but there is no time frame
