Hi I had total knee replacement 5 years ago on my left knee and was fine after 2 months very little pain six months ago had my right knee replaced and I'm still in pain all pain killers don't seem to work for me anyone got any advice that could help
Hi George, I am still on road to recovery myself 12 weeks tkr. Maybe you might need some different meds. Talk with you Dr. About this. Good luck.
Looks as if it would be a good idea to consult your surgeon , if you haven't already done so, to see if there is something wrong, as six months is quite a long time to still be with uncontrollable pain . . I find that i get more pain if I don't continue with the boring exercises and stretching. (19 weeks now). .or if I sit for too long, with my computer! If you are stretching and exercising, then maybe it's time for further investigations . . . .Long term pain medication like this is not good for you either. .
Hi Martin I've phoned the hospital to have my appointment brought forward from October to June so I hope things look up after that thanks
Hi George, I think you were very lucky with the first TKR as mine and most others weren't fine at 2 months However I am at nearly 7 months post op and I came off pain meds at about 8 -10 weeks, and the knee has gradually improved since then. My leg aches after activity relative to what I have been doing, if I do too much it reminds me but in a friendly way and I do not need meds at all as it is not serious pain. I would think a surgeons review is called for if only to give you peace of mind as it doesn't sound quite right. Good luck anyway and keep us posted.
Regards Paul
Good thinking! why wait all tht time worrying thst there may be something wrong. You may have to be a bit insisten though and get an MRI at least to really see what is going on . . thety are usually very quick to tell you everything is OK and keep taking the tablets! All the best
Hi Paul yes I was luck with the first TKR so I thought this one would br the same this time maybe as the Meds don't seem to work for me I'll try to lay off them for a bit see how it goes.
thanks Paul.
Keep on your doc to find one or a combination of drugs that get you pain free. There are so many that it sometimes take awhile. The strong ones sometimes create stomach ailments which can be helped with a secondary drug. Some docs are very proactive while others have their pet and set companies and stay within those parameters. Be firm and agressive till they get you relief
Oh dear - look back over this forum at old fat guys advice. Perhaps you should get a scan as even by the standards of those with issues that's a long time to suffer without knowing why.
Martin does your leg ever feel 'normal' even for a few minutes? I'm the same post op as you and wondered. Also have pain above my knee.
