Anyone have soreness on your uninjured side’s knee from overuse? My knee is sore from all the extra work of compensating for the nwb side. Any tips? Thanks.
Yes
My ankle, calf and knee were sore. I even had swelling/edema. Now that I’m healing more it does not come as bad.
Yes, I get sore knee and sometimes hip on the opposite side. My physio lady tells me it is normal. Exercises such as stretching calves help but the pain or discomfort in the good leg is yet another annoying aspect of the recovery!
Yes, J, the 'good' ankle side of body can be challenged by extra demands placed on it when an injured ankle side goes inactive when you are in a boot/cast and weightless on that side.
In your individual case your knee complained the loudest about extra work on injured side, but for others it can be the 'good' foot, ankle, hip, leg, and so on.
Of course this discomfort should be only temporary and as you get back to normal movement and weight bearing it should go away.
If you are walking in a moon boot (aka air cast, CAM boot) it makes sense to wear an 'even-up' attachment on your good foot shoe so there is no big difference in foot height between ponderous boot leg and shoe leg. This imbalance can be responsible for arthritic-like pains in joints.
What is this “even up”. My dr didn’t mention it. I’m in Moonboot now.
