Hi Sharon, do you mean your stationary bike? I wonder whether I should try doing longer stints on mine. I found it quite uncomfortable - really pulled on this hamstring of mine - but then I raised the seat and it's quite comfortable now ( but boring 😞 ) It should help build up muscle shouldn't it?
Loveley to spend the winter in a warm climate. I'm envious 😎 x x
No, because I'm in Florida I can get outside and bike. No hills here so it's easy biking. I actually think my legs both are starting to feel a little, notice is said little stronger..
I agree about stationary bikes, have never found one that's very comfee.
i do love it here....I spend a lot of time sewing. ...and we lve to dance, so next week will be my first attempt back dancing.
Ha Ha I just had to laugh because I find the stationary bike SO very boring too! I try to stay on for 30 minutes ( I'm told to mix it up by walking for 30 minutes then the next day do the bike for 30 min) but it's so darn boring that it's hard to stay on that long! I've tried closing my eyes & pretending I'm biking along some beautiful beach or countryside, but it doesn't work.
Tried reading but that is uncomfortable. Don't have a TV in there but maybe should consider, if there is anything worth watching.
I should ride the "real bike" outside, but I'm afraid of falling off the darn thing!
Hi Betty, I know Curves well. I used to go regularly a few years ago to one near us so I know the type of machines you mean. I'm sure the "leader" will be sympathetic and you could just try a few machines. Go on, give it a go 😊
I have to admire you for wanting to keep yourself fit. I know what you mean about getting down on the floor. I do some of these hamstring stretches on the floor and I wouldn't like anyone to see me getting down there. It involves a pillow and using my good knee first and sort of rolling over 😊 I'd love to be able to get down on the floor to play with my grandchildren 😢 Maybe one day ....
Stationary bikes are very boring, totally agree. I laughed because when I was at physio year back I used to pretend I was biking by a river looking t ducks. The old men used to laugh at me.
I can't ride a real bike believe it or not! Bit late to learn now😊 I watch tv on my i pad when I'm on the stationary bike but often I lose the signal and it goes off😊
It's ball room, but we do what I'd call country ball room....not fancy...lol. Threw also some line dancing. It's a great deal. 3.00 dollars each admission and beer is 1.50, although not many of us old farts drink...lol
Nice of you to inquire about everyone. You, Jennifer & I are in the same phase, having had our TKR in July. Personally I don'tfeel much different than when you first wrote this post 20 days ago, as far as the stiffness goes, especially getting up from a sitting position. I'm still doing the stretches, walking & riding that boring stationary bike, ha. My problem though, unlike anyone else, is the groin pain on my TKR side, so I fear that is a different issue altogether. Probably my hip, which hopefully I will know more next month when I see my surgeon.
I'm basically the same as well. I'll be in Florida until the end of March. Sorry about your groin pain....thanks no groaning matter...no pun.. Just hoping to hear someone has improved, and that no one is any worse. Thanks Betty.
Hi Sharon, I had my op on the 7th August. I am walking well, but still getting some stiffness heat and pain, I think I have hit that plateau, it will be 4months this week. I still feel that this op has taken my personality, and my love of life away. I never ever felt like this before. Enjoy the Florida weather, its dire here in Britain at the moment, damp, wet, cold and very dark and cloudy. I could really do with some sunshine. Take care TUcks x
Haven't been online for a few days so apologise for not responding sooner. I'm still getting some pain at the back of leg but it isn't as bad as it was. Sometimes it's really good then the stiffness/ discomfort returns. I'm doing the hamstring strengthening exercises and the stretches for the pressure on sciatic nerve. I saw the consultant last week for a check up. He wasn't very concerned about the pain and said it'll probably go in time (though he can't guarantee it!!) . My X Ray was fine and my Oxford knee score (questions completed by me) was ok so that was all he seemed to be concerned about. He told me to come back in 12 months or if I get any problems to contact them. I'm still seeing the physio and have an appointment on Friday. So, overall, yes I think I am improving.
Sorry to hear you're still suffering with the groin pain, Betty. Hope they can sort that out for you. Glad you're okay, Sharon and enjoying the sun still.
Tucks, I hit that plateau too. I'm nearly 20 weeks now, but I remember from about 12 to 16/17 weeks I was getting pain that just didn't seem to go. As I've said, I do feel it's getting better the last few weeks so hope you'll find the same.
Just wanted to update.....I "think" my pain and stiffness is improving. I haven't felt the need to use my cane for nightly washroom trips for about two weeks. It's still stiff after sitting, but doesn't seem to be quite as bad. I'm hoping not t jinx this and that it really is getting better. I'm just past five months.
Good news! I know what you mean about being afraid to say though 😊 every time I think I'm improving it comes back to bite me 😊
I feel like you though and overall I know I'm better. I still get very stiff when I get up and when I've been walking or on my feet for a while it's stiff when I bend my leg. But it's definitely not so painful and I can stay on my feet for a lot longer. Hope we're turning a corner😊 Jen 23 weeks
