Well here I am out the other side of my knee op. The operation apparently went well, some of the after care a bit dubious in the hospital but the NZ health system has been like that a long time. I'm out now and there is a lot of pain but mainly I think I am coping with it. Not sure if the meds are working as well as they did to start with. On two codiene plus two paracetamol four times a day and ended up with a chest infection so on anti- biotics for that. I find I'm getting quite a lot of pain in my knee cap kind of a burning pain which makes me feel sick. Don't know why that stands out. Otherwise I think I've been lucky!

Good to hear the op went well . If your meds aren't working well ask your doctor for better pain relief , recovery is much easier if you are as free from pain as possible . Your physio and exercise are a very important part of your recovery , but don't over do it . Take your medication about 1 hour before physio & exercise , easier to do if you're not in pain . Ice is important and so is moisturising and massaging your scar . If you have some bad days , they will end and things will get better in time . This is your recovery and if may possibly be different from other peoples , and you have many years of pain free knee to look forward to . I hope all goes well for you , keep us informed .

Thanks David.  Appreciate your support!

Hi! Well done!

Is there a reason they are not giving you anti inflammatories as well as the other meds?

TENS machine, cheap to buy on net might be worth a try for those times between medications.

Keep us posted!

At the moment they might be worried about an ulcer as I was quite sick in hospital and coughing up, with the water I had been drinking a lot of brown muck.  I'm getting another blood test tomorrow to see if I've been losing blood which could mean an ulcer.  I don't think I do have an ulcer but better to be safe.  Anyway I think that's why no anti inflammatories.

Yes, better to be safe. How many days post op are you?

I have had a total knee replacement - two weeks today.  My physio had said my knee is not bending enough.  There seems to be a muscle just above my knee that is very unhappy.  She has advised me to get on to stronger painkillers to enable me to push the knee bending more (and her as well! ).  My GP has prescribed co-codamol and advised we need to get this into my system for a couple of days and keep it up to enable my knee to be manipulated more.  Any views on this?  Feeling really frustrated and upset as I have been working so hard on it.

It was a week yesterday, Thursday

Around week mark seems common for pain to feel worse, not sure why, maybe to do with all the pain medications pumped into knee wearing off a bit? Hopefully keeping up the meds you have will suffice. I was given a bottle of morphine to take home...though I never cracked it open it was comforting to know it was there! Keep as dosed up as possible!

I was thinking it might mean those medications might have worn out. I'm not feeling much relief from the meds I'm taking at all. Going to the doctor this after noon as I also have to get the blood test so will ask him then.

My medication was co-codamol  30/500mg , tramadol 200mg slow release and diclofenac 50mg , worked fine for me . Medication taken as prescribed don't wait for the pain , take your medication to control the pain . You are now one week nearer recovery  .

Going to the doctor in half an hour to get something better. These meds aren't cutting it!!!!
