Knee & thigh pain

Hello, I am almost 10 weeks post op THR anterior approach on my right side.  I have been progressing pretty well I suppose - using a cane for the first hour of the morning then walking fine.  Been riding a stationary bike or my city bike for an hour at a time and walking up to 4 miles, but after a more vigorous cycling session 2 days ago suddenly my knee is inflamed & quite sore and my thigh is really sore again.  Back on the cane full time, took Norco yesterday and didn't even go to work today.  I've been doing fine with Tylenol until this.  I assume it is just a setback but would love to hear of anyone else's experience

Hi Terri,Please remember that you have had a major operation. I Would urge you to seek advise from your phsyio.Have you tried Hydrotherapy? Please take a day at a time.It is possible that you've pulled a muscle.Don't be alarmed. But it can take at least a year to get back to normal.Regards Amanda h

I think you may have overdone it. I went crazy in the treadmill ft 2 months and same thing. Surgeon told me to slow it down. I did. Took about a month and pain gone and never came back. Mid thigh pain from stem. Best of luck

Crikey Terri

Sounds lovely me you are doing far too much slow down a bit ! Your body needs time to heal.

Take it easy

Julie

Thanks to all, I appreciate the reassurances.  This process, certainly has been a lesson in patience and humility!

Hi Terry

I feel for you with the pain but it sounds like you are doing too much too soon.  Slow back down and slowly build up.  Perhaps physio in a heated pool would help.

dear terri,

great responses and advice already - the more vigorous cycling session might have done your knees in -

sounds like you are doing great !!!!

big warm hug

Hi Terri,

It sounds as though you have overdone things and have possibly stressed out the muscles around knee.  I'd advise you to slow down for a few days, rest as much as possible and apply ice packs.  Once the pain is under control then you should be okay to start back up again slowly.  Remember that you only just had major surgery.  You sounds as though you are in training for the olympics.  Less is more during the first few months.

Take care!
