Knee turning in

hi, I will be four weeks on wed and notice that my leg/knee on operated side turns in slightly. Is this due to weak muscles?

Hi Tara,

My foot turns out on the operated side, I noticed it when I restarted pilates, it flops towards the floor, I think we need to consciously work on exercising the foot.

hi Tara. I’m almost 6 weeks post OP and I did think abt 3 weeks ago my OP side foot was turning in slightly when walking but since then I’ve been able to get outside and increase my daily steps it’s gone. I also always wear firm fitting shoes ie not slippers etc to help prevent it as well. I’m sure I’ve read on here before it’s quite common post surgery and does improve with walking and time. I’m sure it is due to weaker muscles - we’ve not been using certain ones properly for some time ( in my case over 2 yrs and more)
good luck

cant wait to start pilates again, how far along are you? any limping?

prior to surgery I lost alot of movement and limped also my leg would go out to the side and make like a circle movement when I walked. Getting a little paranoid now that i starting a habit! Are you limping? walking unaided?
Tara

hi. im not limping unless I’m only using 1 crutch so sticking with 2 atm. due for my first out patient appt monday so see what they say. pre op I was using one crutch to walk anyway as since dec had no power in thigb muscle on bad leg plus severe pain to same muscle and groin besides hip grating bone on bone pain. the crutch helped eased the pain and helped me get abt.
this all takes time and I’m convinced improves to the best you can be. but atm I’m quite happy with my progress  I think sometimes we forget how bad we’ve been :what major surgery we’ve just had .

Hi Tara,

I had my hip op fifteen months ago, I chose caution over rushing therefore, did not start step aerobics and pilates until 5.5 months, then added zumba. I had lower back pain which made me walk bent over upon standing, but that disappeared within a couple of weeks after restarting pilates. I have a very slight limp which is not noticeable if I walk heel toe, it certainly does not bother me.

Do your exercises, walk as much as possible and I am sure you will have a very successful recovery.
