Hi I an 4 months and 3 weeks out of op I had a full knee replacement I am still having problems with it when I get up in a morning it feels ok bus soon as I walk it hurts and feels really tight I still can't walk properly and when I lift it from the floor to bed or sny where else it hurts over my knee cap just wondering if any 1 else is experiencing that thanks in advance xx
Hi dorothy, I'm 5 mths post tkr and still have stiffness in my knee, it also gets painfull after walking as I still have swelling from fluid at the back of it. I think that the muscles, tendons and nerve endings take a long time to heal.I am doing tightening exercises on my glute and calve muscles to try and strengthen my leg and it does seem to be helping a lot. Exercise and rest have to be balanced so don't try to push through pain.
Hello from Florida. I'm 3 months tkr,& I still can't bend on my own , knee is stiff can't get over 80%, but could bend 90% plus @rehab, just got a knee splint today, that I'm to wear 2-4 hours at 1st, my knee is probably 80 with this splint. Still hope this works, would post as times goes.
Dorothy, have you discussed this with your doctor? Certainly, by now, that tightness should be on its way out. I know what you mean....I'm only 6 weeks post-op for a double TKR and that pain is unbearable.
Keep us posted.
Hi Dorothy
4 months is still early on in your rehab process. I am 14 wks post L TKR. My knee feels pretty comfortable in bed but is always extra stiff in the morning.
What bothers me mainly is the stiffness and the heaviness. I have a decent bend (125) and can almost straighten it, but when I'm out and about, my whole L leg feels like an oak tree which make walking tiring after just a short time. I can only hope this will ease in future.
Recently I had three days of sharp electric-shock like pains in my left bottom cheek, a bit like sciatica. I was very scared what it was telling me, however, it appears to have gone thankfully.
I'm sorry your experiencing pain daily but we are both fairly early in our rehab stages. Hang in there, and I'm sure you'll feel less pain and benefits soon.
Hi Dorothy
Yes, that was something that I had with both of my TKRs. You haven't mentioned whether you are also having problems bending or straightening though?
Tightness is normally and can last many months, as can sensitivity.
My knees gradually got stiffer and so I had manipulations. With my second knee, it still wasn't straight, so I had excess scar tissue removed a year on (Sept). I'm still having a lot of pain and sensitivity at the moment, when walking, but I don't have pain lifting it onto the bed, etc.
Woukd be worth checking in with your consultant.
