I had my knee done 8 weeks ago, i had 40 clips but apart from having the clips removed, I have had 2 physiotherapy sessions and seen my consultant once. I feel totally abandoned, is this normal ?.or am I being silly
Are you in UK?
Provision varies from area to area.
Seeing consultant just once is very much the norm on NHS. I saw mine at around 3 months.
I had more physio than yourself but as said, I think it varies depending on the CCG of your area.
Yeah about right same for me x
I started in-home PT within a few days of my op and the out-patient PT starting week 3 for 10 weeks at 2X.week. Went from -14 / +84 to a ROM of -1 / +123. At 20 months, I'm now about 0 / +133. It takes a while...but you can start the ROM work at home...

I would start immediately...
I don't think there is a normal service. It seems to vary so much. I actually went private but still saw the consultant once at seven weeks. After two weeks I saw the physio about once every ten days. Yes you do feel abandoned. However all the work is down to you the individual once you have had the operation. Do the exercises you did with the physio every day, there are also some good ones on YouTube.
it is certainly hard to be motivated but the surgeons have done their but the rest is up to you. It is a pity we can't have more help with the physio but that's the cash strapped nhs.
I've seen a physio 3 times but they haven't done anything. The first session they just gave me exercises to do at home and measured range of movement. I've seen the consultant once and that was on Wednesday. He didn't touch me at all just looked at the scar and said I need to improve ROM and he'll see me again in 6 weeks. I've got private health insurance which entitles me to fee physio sessions I've had 5 so far again they seem to focus on strengthening the joint. I've told him today I want ROM to improve so he started massaging my quad and knee cap and then pushing my knee to bend more. I think you just need to help yourself in the UK X
Ye, I'm the same. I seen the physio for one day, the day I left the hospital. I was given a leaflet with pictures of the exercises to do at home. I'm 8 weeks on Monday and haven't seen anyone yet. I've just had an appointment sent out to me to see the surgeon, that will be 11 weeks and 2 days after my op
About right good job we have friends on here to keep us right x
We paid private for my surgery and care, it cost is over £22,000 i expected better after care
Sorry yes I am in the Uk
Thanks for you reply, I too went private, I expected to see physio more often, they did say I had full movement back on my leg at 2 weeks. I asked about going to the gym but he said only if I have a personal trainer .
Hi Debbie. I know exactly what you mean. I too paid at the Spire and came away thinking it was very poor care for the money. I can't complain about the surgeon but everything else was rushed to make a profit I expect. I did have a brilliant physio at the Spire who saw me 4 times and then I went to his own practice privately. But, again not the full package care you would hope to get for paying that amount of money.
I do have private insurance
I had the operation done on the NHS but I do have private health insurance. They paid me £50 for every night I stayed in hospital and I'm entitled to 10 physiotherapy sessions a year so I'm using them. You should look into it X
I am going to ring my insurance company now
I can not complain about my surgeon and hospital staff. Yes I do agree once it's done they go straight to the next person( I l ow it's their job but I fell I need more physiotherapy. I am going to speak to my insurance company now to see if I can get some more sessions
Hi deb,I went private too through AXA (through my works medical care scheme) and I was allowed £1000 out patient money but I had to find the physio I wanted and it had to be on AXA’s list of physio’s.(most are)once I had done that andAXA ok’d it the physio just billed AXA for my sessions.the out patient money also covered the 8week surgeon check up.
I'm with AXA they picked the nearest physio to me and they pay the physio directly. All I had to do was ring up for an appointment
In my case I knew the physio from previous ops that’s why I picked him and I knew he was on AXA’s list and yes once I phoned AXA and they ok’d it there and then I booked a block of ten sessions with the physio who in turn billed AXA.
Brent did you have the op done privately or under NHS? Because I had it under NHS AXA paid me £50 for every night I was in hospital. My fella says if he had known that he would have made sure I stayed there for a week 😂😂
