Kneeling on knee

Hi

in mid May 2017 I had a partial knee op.  Any idea when I might if if ever be able to knee on my knee without any pain

Hi. Most people will tell you that kneeling isn't an option. Not sure about partial knee replacement though. I've had a total replacement, and it is not comfortable to kneel. I'm 8 months post-op.

Perhaps others in your situation can offer suggestions?

I'm not sure about partial knee replacement , but I have had tkr on both knees , I have had no problem with kneeling , but everyone is different .

I kneel on my TKR five month post op for yoga and painting. Use knee pads. I only kneel on both at same time, not on the operated knee alone, so weight is shared by both knees.

Hi

I am the same as geriane 10 months post tkr i have knelt down but it feels very strange and not to easy to get up lol.

You are lucky! What is your secret? Plz share. 😊

I get up like a toddler. Lol legs up, hands on the floor to push myself up. 😅

I try not to get on the floor at all. Getting up is not fun. Lol

Patience , it took many months before I could kneel . It's now 19½ & 17½ years since I had my knees done . I have had no problems with them . Do your physio and exercise , as much as you can without over doing it . Take your pain medication to control your pain , don't wait until the pain is bad before taking it , you can't exercise correctly if you are in pain . Don't measure your recovery against someone else , we are all different , what I could do in 4 months someone else did in 2 , another may take 5 or 6 .  Go at the pace that is right for you . Please remember , It's a race not a journey , you need to get there  you don't need to be first .

I meant to say " It's a journey not a race "  SORRY.

I am with you on THAT one!😁

I'm at 18 months post RTKR and I can kneel on it without a problem.

I'm at 3 months post LTKR and I can kneel on the softness of my bed only so far..  I'm sure it will become like the right knee.

Lol. I read it as it was meant to be. Didn't even notice the words were out of order. Great how the mind works. ☺️  I'm at 8 months. My physio ended back in mid-February. I joined a gym 3 weeks later as my knee was starting to stiffen up...missed the machines in physio. Now, I'm on the treadmill, elliptical, bike & leg press....try to go every other day. I've tried kneeling (when cleaning the tub). Not an easy task. I usually end up with my leg out to the side, and kneel on the other one. I've been able to go on all fours on the bed (softer), but not to actually kneel. Maybe with time it will come. Encouraging to know how long it's been for you, and that you and that you're doing so well.

If you meant "kneeling"...  Like you've already heard "It's all individual".  I'm 17 months post-TKR and kneeling is still a small challenge.  There's zero pain inside the knee itself...after all, it's metal.  It's more of a tingly nerve-thing that's more bothersome.  So when I need to work on my knees indoors, I use a pillow or 3" of foam; outside, I strap on a pair of SWAT tactical knee pads (hard plastic with cushioning on the inside).  Again, it's not bone or joint pain; it's more surface nerve tingling at the incision point.  I imagine rubbing in some AsperCream with 4% Lidocaine would help.

😀😁😂I use a yoga position called downward facing dog and get up that way.

Sounds like downward facing dog!

I practised kneeling on bed from about three weeks post op. It took some determination and only did for a few seconds at first but it certainly helped increase flexion! Bed is a good starting point. My physio was a bit shocked when I told her, but i really wanted to be able to continue with my very adapted gentle yoga!

I don't know anything about yoga.....but the description SOUNDS like what I do. Lol. Kinda the way a toddler gets to a standing position. 😂

Haha. Just saw this after I answered your other comment.  Yes. It does sound the same.  😂😁

Woah!! You're an ambitious lady!! I don't think I'd have been doing that so soon. Was afraid of splitting my incision. I think my staples just came out at two weeks. I didn't try kneeling on the bed til probably 4 months post. Figured it would be easier to try and get more bend in my knee without being on a hard surface. My boyfriend is very helpful too. I lay on my stomach and he bends my leg back. Only as far as I let him though. It gets to a point where it hurts too much.....
