Thanx to you bods I was succesful in getting DLA. Since then I have had a letter from the Tax Credit office. Apparently if you get DLA and are on tax credits you are entitled to the disability element of Tax Credit. :?:
The thing that spooked me is it said in black and white \"as you are disabled\". I dont like to think I am :wah:
Anyway it was cushioned by the fact that my payments are backdated to when I first claimed DLA in April, I got a nice lump sum in my account :P
Just so others in the same situation are aware they can claim
Right, off to pace myself  so I can go on a spending spree :gift:
So pleased to hear this news Dale, especially as so many are turned down.
I agree, 'disabled' is not a label I like. I tend to use 'partially disabled' as I just cannot put myself in the same bracket as my friend, Mark.
Besides, there are things that I am able to do. Can't quite think what they are at the moment :?
I have sent in the renewal for my disabled parking badge. It won't be the end of the world if it isn't renewed, but it would be nice. It means I can park free in town and at the hospital, and there is always a parking space at Sainsbury's. :D
that reminds me, i must get my DLA form off. and having a disabled sticker for my car would be amazing, as we have the nasty old conjestion charge in london
but would have to pay something ridiculous like £12 if i wanted to drive in the centre.
i do agree with cutting traffic/pollution, but the sad thing is is that it just means poorer people dont drive in london. you only ever see expensive cars now. the people with the serious money :2cents: don't even notice the charge, so its the less well off people that dont drive in the centre.
i wish there was a fairer way of doing it. especially as i may need to drive in town at some point!
I don't get High Rate DLA so I had to apply separately for my Blue Badge. Just sent off the forms to renew it. Hope I get it again, it is sooooo useful, and not just for free parking either.
who do you have to apply to? and do you need to have DLA to get it?
ive never filled in so many forms in my life! was doing DLA today and realised got to get some form from my doctor first as sick notes are not enough.
urgh... really really hope i get it. to be honest i actually do need it for petrol/insurance as i simply cant use public transport very often, and cant carry food shopping back from supermarket.
It is essential to have your GP on side as the DWP will ask for a report from him/her. I remember my GP telephoning me at about 8.30 one evening to ask me what I wanted him to put in the report - bless you Dr John.
Trees, I don't know, ask your local Social Services office, that's where I contacted initially and they gave me a phone number to ring. It helps to be getting DLA but I don't think I did in the beginning. Think I had just applied for it.
I warn you, it is harder for a young person to get a badge than an old fogey like me.
I have being getting DLA since December. I sent the renewal to them in July and all I have heard is a confirmation letter to say they have received it.
i've finished mine today and going to send it tomorrow morning. fingers crossed...
rather embarrasingly i phoned up my doctor to ask for a DS1500 form. She started laughing - turns out i'd read the wrong bit, and this is for terminally ill patients! she said that was going a bit far in my case...
Today I received my forms for a reassessment of my claim because I am having to ask for help with things a lot more now than when I first applied. I don't necessarily get the help because there is not always someone here, but I need it and I have to pay out more for services like cleaning and ironing, and use taxis instead of driving.
So I am in the middle of doing this reassessment form. It seems a bit greedy when I already have DLA to be saying - hey, can I have a bit more?
no it is not greedy at all! incapacity benefit and the others is so unbelieavably low that as a partially/disabled person it is just not enough to live on
when i found out how much i was expected to live on, as a person with an illness, i was in shock  after adding up all my bills i realised that it actually doesn't cover all my expenses, and when you're ill you do need to pay out for other things, for example my car :bus: i simply cannot manage public transport at the moment - its too far to walk and too stressful when im on it.
don't feel bad for asking for what you need. the government is very quick to take things from us and i dont think its wrong to expect something back in this sitation! :steam:
Hmm, I just don't like to think I am being a scrounger. I get IB at the highest rate and I also have a husband who is working so I am not as 'in need' for the bills and household expenses as you are.
However I am paying for shopping delivery, ironing, cleaning, and taxis atm because I am finding driving difficult and the bus too tiring.
and i don't think anyone with more than one brain cell could call you a scrounger.
oh i really hope i get mine but if it does come back as a no, ill just take it to my nice lady at CAB and maybe she can help. i also spoke to my doctor and told her i was filling it out as i am on the worst day, so hopefully she'll back me up on that.
i do get furious when people go on about scrounging people having a lovely time on benefits :steam:  the effort it takes to get a measly £60 a week which doesn't even cover bills let alone food and clothing is ridiculous. i honestly believe that the majority of people would not be on benefit unless they absolutely had to. i don't know how anyone survives on it. perhaps if you've got 15 kids and you get a bit extra for them, maybe that works out, i dont know, but id rather be sweeping the streets than sitting here wondering how im going to pay my phone bill
:grrr:
right, am off to calm down. i really must stop getting to het up about things, im sure its half the reason im ill
