Hi all, Ive recently seen my consultant and he is sure the pain im suffering from is not worn out hips but labral tears to both hips due to the shape of my bones causing impingement. He said the symptoms are really similar to worn hips. Im now waiting for an mri just to confirm.
My consultant was really annoyed about what my doctor had told me and has mentioned it can be repaired through keyhole surgery where they stitch up the labral gasket and reshape my bones.
Problem being ive got quite a bit of wear and tear due to them not picking this up not quick enough. Looks like i will need a replacement some time in the future anyway.
Has anyone else heard of labral tears?

Hi Scott, I obviously can't diagnose what you actually have going on in there but can empathise with mixed messages you get. Laberal tears was something I had thrown in the pot originally because I have slight dysplasia but apparently had too much pain! I got passed on to another consultant who then took six months and an MRI to tell me I needed new hips due to osteoarthritis.
Getting an answer nearly drove me mad and while you wait the damage just gets worse.

Scott - J'ai déjà vécu ça, 12 semaines après ma première THR droite, je marchais et me sentais fantastique.
En marchant, j'ai soudainement eu l'impression que quelqu'un m'avait poignardé avec un couteau dans la région de la hanche gauche, je me suis plié en deux en hurlant de douleur, le médecin a suggéré que j'avais probablement tiré un muscle, mais a également dit que cela pourrait être une déchirure du labrum, seul le délai pendant lequel la douleur disparaîtrait pourrait trancher, 6 semaines pour un muscle et 12 semaines pour une déchirure du labrum, 13 semaines plus tard, je me suis réveillé un matin sans douleur.
La 14e semaine après la THR, j'ai reçu un rendez-vous avec un spécialiste à l'hôpital où j'avais subi ma THR droite, ils ont fait une radiographie et ont dit qu'il y avait une différence évidente dans l'espacement entre l'os du bassin et le haut du fémur, le spécialiste a confirmé que j'avais probablement déchiré mon labrum, il m'a montré la forme inhabituelle de la tête de mon fémur, et a dit que c'était une usure arthritique, et que tout était rugueux au lieu d'être lisse et régulier, et qu'un de ces endroits rugueux avait probablement accroché le labrum et l'avait déchiré. Six mois plus tard, j'avais encore beaucoup de douleur, j'attendais une THR, mais je l'ai finalement subie. Ferais-je à nouveau cette opération ? Oui, probablement, si mon histoire familiale de vivre jusqu'à leurs 90 ans est un indicateur, j'ai 64 ans.
