Laceration/blister

Morning hippies

My friend redressed my wound yesterday lthr 1/2/18 the actual wound and staples looked really good albeit a lit of bruising and swelling.

However about two inches above the op site is a laceration/burst blister that was not covered by the original dressing I noticed that when I sat on the toilet when I stood up fresh blood came out of it and into the toilet bowl.

If I put a pressure dressing on it it stops buts starts to bleed again if I remove it.

Now I realise it is very tight and Swollen in that area but am concerned as to what it actually is as it is not part of the original suture site. Any ideas what it could be I am going to see someone if I can today

Thanks susan

Hi Susan I assume thats the 1st of feb it csn get a bit confusing with our stateside friends as that would be 2nd jan I always write the month. I hahwmy THR 9 days ago my wound is covered in an aquacel dressing to be removed next week but it does seem dry. If i was you I would give the hospital a call biggest thing to avoid obviously is infection you bay find that you bleed a lot more because of your blood thinners which I assume you are on. All the best for a smooth recovery.

Hi Susan

How long was your stay in hospital. Reason I ask is that one possibility might be a pressure sore picked up while you were more or less immobile after your op.

I know that when I had my THR done last November the nurses were checking me every couple of hours to make sure that I was not developing any pressure sores. I believe once established, they can be quite difficult to get rid of. If you are Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic the healing process can be even more tricky.

My advice would be to have it checked sooner rather than later in case any infection gets in there.

Best of luck

Pressure sores around the hip area seem to happen quite often according to an orthopaedic surgeon friend of mine.  I managed to get one on my lower leg after my hip op, the blister was enormous. I am not sure what caused it.

Wow! No idea. Definitely don't wait to have it looked at. Let us know. Good luck!
