After 10 weeks of meds my levels are within the normal range and I am now waiting for the body to catch up!
I can potter about the house and on a good day shop in the village. However when I try to do any more such as a supermarket shop or spend a few hours at work (a lovely low pressure job) I quickly end up washed out and completely drained. It is if I run up against a brick wall..one minute I am fine; next I can hardly get out of the seat.
It then takes nearly a week of doing very little to get back to where I was.
I don't want to stay a lady of leisure! It upsets me that I can do so little.
Hi Linda, It will take quite a while for your body to return to normal i was diagnosed with graves 18 months ago i have had rai & am now under but, still dont feel normal. You will find though that the good days last longer than the bad days. Elaine.
Hi Linda. I've only been on treatment for a few weeks and my thyroid levels are still high. However, I know what you mean about lack of stamina. I usually dash about doing everything at the double, but at the moment it takes me ages to do anything. I feel as though I'm fastened to a piece of elastic and something is pulling me back all the time. I feel so confused too, doing and saying silly things.
However, my feet and legs have been badly swollen, but now I can get my shoes on again, so that's an achievement. Marigold
Hi Linda, I know what you mean about lack of stamina. I've been on meds since early March and was surprised to find I had to keep having a sit down after doing not very much. This has improved a bit but I find it unpredictable, one day I'm ok and the next I am shattered. Been shopping with a friend today and could hardly get back in the front door ,(had to have cheesecake to revive myself!) Hope you are feeling a bit better Marigold and enjoy the holiday Elaine, bring us back some sunshine. Bess.
Good idea about the cheesecake Bess. I ate most of a box of chocolates the other day. I've always been slim, but it's a bit worrying at the moment the way my weight is still going down. I hope you feel better soon.
It's a good idea to make christmas cards Linda. Have you made them before?
I'm having trouble sleeping. I don't know why I bother going to bed some nights.
When I couldn't sleep I used to lie in bed with one earpiece in listening to music on an MP3. Found it helped me to drift off.
Are any of you taking vitamin supplements? I was advised to by the endo and as I had been taking supplements for the last 2 years (for calcium + vit d) I kept taking them. I did check the label to see what was in them and in the state I was in nothing registered.
Looked again at the label yesterday and discovered that for the last 2 years the daily tablet has been adding 100% of daily iodine intake to my body.
Wonder if that was what sent me hyper?
My 17 year old son takes great photos, Marigold, and I use them on the front of my cards.
Hi Linda. I am having an ok day today. I feel quite normal, or what passes for normal anyway. Hope you are having an ok day , and everyone else too.
I've checked all my vitamin supplements, and none of them contain iodine.
It just goes to show we take supplements thinking they're doing us good, and they could be doing the opposite. I don't suppose the iodine you were taking was helping.
Thanks for the advice about listening to music in bed. I'll try that.
Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a good day. Just a quick update on me incase anyone has the same symptoms and is wondering about them.
Just been to the endo. He says my bloods look fairly normal now after 3+ months of treatment The tiredness and constant anxiety I feel are by-products of the thyroid experience. He feels that they are not directly caused by the gland itself but by the experiences that I have had. The GP is to treat this with happy pills Citalopram and behaviour therapy. He is hopeful that soon my body will get back its harmony and I will get back out there into the big wide world!
My thyroid med has been reduced to 10mg and I go back in 2 months.
