Had cataract surgery with RxSight LAL lenses three days ago. Accidently walked outside with the clear lense (inside glasses) on for about 30 seconds. Sun largely blocked by trees. Any experience by anyone with this type of mishap? It is the weekend and I left a message at the doctors office.
I am not an expert, so pure speculation, but unless direct exposure, I don’t think there would be a serious effect. But it is risky as UV exposure could cause “unknown” changes to refractivity, so obviously follow up with doctor as soon as possible. Don’t the usually respond to an emergency call.
I have read they are working on a new LAL where you do not need the UV glasses.
Did they do the LAL lenses with ActiveShield? They now have it where the shield can be built inside the lens to protect against the UV lens (they remove the shielding for adjustments). The point of that is to give some protection for mishaps like that. Of course, you should still wear your UV blocking glasses as instructed. I do think that talking to your doctor’s office is a good idea. If you have already done that, what response did you get? Curious as I am getting a LAL implanted later this week.
